Hi I’m not due my second dose till late August and there are so many cases down here (holiday area).

Just how wary do I need to be with one dose? Does it give protection against s roost illness If I contract it ? Thanks

I had one dose of pfizer and got pretty bad covid. Not enough to be hospitalised but I felt like hell for about a week and I still get bouts of exhaustion five weeks later. I caught it from ds so would have had a very high level of exposure before he was symptomatic.

In your place I'd keep up with whatever level of precautions you've been taking before you had the first dose.

33% effective against the delta variant according to the BMJ.

Endofether · 27/07/2021 18:01

Gosh it’s so low ...

Hopefully will get through the next 4 weeks !

I had my first dose in May and now have mild covid

transformandriseup · 27/07/2021 19:29

Mine was originally late august but it was brought forward to last week.

Can you look online to see if you can bring yours forward?

TheVampiresWife · 27/07/2021 19:48

@Endofether one dose of Pfizer gives up to 94% protection from hospitalisation (from Delta).

I had first dose back in January and exactly two weeks later rest of family caught covid
I didnt catch it.
I’d imagine efficacy varies though person to person

Pinksmartie230316 · 27/07/2021 20:52

I had one dose of Pfizer in May plus I had covid back in December. Both my son and daughter have recently had covid, I didn’t isolate from them and didn’t catch it.

Move your date up. Lots of places will do Pfizer from 4 weeks now

It's safe but a longer gap seems to give a better immune response. You have to weigh that up against the risk of being ill if you catch covid.
My 25 year old DC was originally booked for 12 weeks which was the end of August then rebooked for 8 weeks when they changed to 8 week gaps for everyone. However when cases started going through the roof he decided on balance that he'd feel better fully protected. Went to a walk in centre and got the 2nd dose at 6 weeks.

I had my first Moderna yesterday Does anyone know the efficacy of one Moderna. Im intending to have the second

Zippy1510 · 29/07/2021 14:16

Yes it’s safe most countries do a 4 week gap for Pfizer as that’s why Pfizer recommends. There is extremely limited evidence a bigger gaps improves immunity for Pfizer. Only 1 study but it’s only in the over 85s who we know are slower to elicit an adaptive response. It’s definitely a good idea to love it up if you can.
