Possible rule changes for double-jabbed expats returning to UK

Nadhim Zahawi, the vaccines minister said: “By the end of this month, UK nationals who have been vaccinated overseas will be able to talk to their GP, go through what vaccine they have had and have it registered with the NHS that they have been vaccinated.

How is this supposed to work? Surely most expats won't be registered with a UK GP

NHS! Buses aren't free.

Given I think all many “expats” want to do is nip back to the Uk to see relatives I’m not sure isolating and then registering temporarily with a GP (if even possible) is really the way to go or or good use of NHS resources.

Currently a fully vaccinated British resident can go to several places in Europe without having to isolate either way or register with the local medical services when in Europe..all many of us are asking for is a bit of reciprocity…..

notimagain · 26/07/2021 20:22
@notimagain yes, I think it’s ridiculous. Vaccinated people shouldn’t be getting special treatment when they can still contract and spread the virus.
So you think there should be no, zero, nil benefit, ever, to being double vaccinated…OK..Hmm

bumbleymummy · 26/07/2021 20:27

Well you have the benefit of being less likely to become seriously ill/die. That’s usually all we look for in a vaccine!

dementedma · 26/07/2021 20:33

Sis is in Belgium and desperate to come home to visit aging mum. As she says " you bought the bloody vaccine from us in the first place!"

Mirabelle47 · 26/07/2021 21:30

UK GP services are so overwhelmed at the moment that they can't even see their own patients when they are actually ill. Surely this is an administrative job that needs to be done by someone who can read and recognise foreign paperwork, not a job for overworked doctors???

We are not allowed to use the NHS as we live in France- we have our shiny new WARP cards and are fully registered into the French system. Both double jabbed we have our vaccination certificates and have registered them on the "Tousanticovid" app. Incidentally the app recognises NHS qr codes so anyone from the U.K. can register their jabs to get the Pass sanitaire. Takes about 2 minutes.

If we want to visit our family in the U.K., as it stands we will have to pay a fortune for tests and quarantine for 10 days.

Oh, and we are immigrants- not "expats".

Hah f'kin hah. Given the govt' can't even align jabs between UK nations there's no hope of this happening.

notimagain · 26/07/2021 22:48

Oh, and we are immigrants- not "expats".

I must admit I gave up on fighting that particular linguistic battle many many many years ago….as I see it we’re immigrants as far as the neighbours here in France are concerned, and “expats”as far as HMG and the UK MSM are concerned…

In any event since the unfairness of two tier systems has been mentioned I’d really appreciate an end to this particular one…..
