How long did Covid last for your DC?

I've searched and found posts about what symptoms DC have had but not how long they lasted. I know it varies hugely but just interested to hear your experiences. My DC (5) currently has Covid so just wondering what symptoms your DC had and how long they lasted. Did they get better then get worse, or did symptoms start at different times, for example?

Just under a week in total. Sore throat and change on taste were the only symptoms. Felt back to normal at about day 6.

OliveTree75 · 28/07/2021 08:45

My ds only had a sore throat and we only knew because he mentioned it once. Otherwise he wad eating and playing normally.

bizboz · 28/07/2021 08:49

DC had a mild sore throat for about 5 days and slight loss of appetite. Lost sense of smell after a few days and it hasn't come back yet (about 3 weeks on).

WhatTheFoot · 28/07/2021 08:51

Oldest dd (16)- symptoms lasted around 4 days.
Youngest dd (11) has it now, teated positive 7 days ago and is still coughing alot but that's all that's left now.

TheVolturi · 28/07/2021 08:56

Ds age 7. Started with the typical dry cough. The next day he was slightly stuffy. The day after he woke up full of a heavy cold with a very weak voice, and no energy. Tested positive that day on lateral flow (they'd been negative up to then). He stayed like this for 5 days and then seemed to have not energy and coughing less, voice came back, then his eyes were really sore, he hated the light and they were really gunky. That lasted 3 days. Then totally fine.

KurtWilde · 28/07/2021 09:03

Mild scratchy throat for my DC, eating and playing normally, no temperature or cough. Lasted around 48 hours.

KurtWilde · 28/07/2021 09:04

Oh yes, bloodshot eyes too but they weren't sore or itchy, that lasted around 3-4 days.

LighthouseBrighthouse · 28/07/2021 09:11

Dc 16 headache for 2 days
Dc 13 woke up with a sore throat. By lunchtime it was gone

Thanks for replies. DC is on day 6. Day 1 was just a slight cough. Since then her temp has been up and down (40 highest but not been that high since day 3), sickness but has slowed down now but still feels sick, she's not eating, body aches and generally lethargic. She's slept on and off (fitfully) every day. She's been crying 90% of the time she's awake. DH wants to ring the GP. I don't think there's anything they can do - she's not dehydrated, her breathing is fine, temp isn't crazy high now. She refuses to take Calpol which doesn't help with the aches and pains. What would you do?

Bloodshot eyes and blocked nose for 2-3 days

Never had a fever or any other symptoms.

poor baby, that sounds horrible for you both. I don't know what I'd do - could you ask a pharmacist for a painkiller suppository? I've never used one on a child but I've seen it suggested on here for children who refuse to take Calpol.
coffeepleeease · 28/07/2021 10:08

changingstages we wouldn't get suppositories in her - she's meant to have them for chronic constipation but that's near impossible! I'm wondering whether she could have half a Calpol meltlet as they're for over 6...could crush it in a drink maybe. Clutching at straws here!! Sad

I once asked the dr for painkiller suppository when dd was little with bad ear infection and couldn't keep calpol down. He looked at me like I was crazy and said, we don't go around putting things up babies bottoms 🙄.
I was actually embarrassed for asking! Although in some countries that's what they routinely do!

DC 1 - first symptoms were headache and sore throat for about a week, then had about 3 days of feeling really unwell, tired and with a temperature, then about 10 days of slowly feeling better. I’d say about 3 weeks all in all. His sense of taste and smell still hasn’t fully come back after a month, though.

DC2 - had cold symptoms and felt tired and unwell for about 5 days, then completely better.

Cherubb · 28/07/2021 10:15

DC1 - acute bit about 3 weeks (quite ill, similar to what you describe plus chest pain) however not crying all the time, able to watch TV and lay on sofa, seemed to mostly recover (but was still lethargic) and then it turned into a bad case of long covid 14 months!
DC 2 - acute bit 10 days (also less severe than DC1), then slight 'long covid / post viral fatigue' for about a month after, then fine.

Both mine had mild respiritory symptoms, slight cough, fevers and general malaise plus tummy pain and headaches. The main difference was eldest then developed chest pains and other things as it led into the 'long' covid and my youngest didn't, she just got better.

The GP can't do a lot but they will check your DC over and do blood tests (when it is safe too). I think this can be helpful when very worried (if you are). It is important to check inflammation levels I think if symptoms worsen / persist.

Cherubb · 28/07/2021 10:16

Oh yes sorry forgot to add change in taste (but not smell) for both of mine and low appetite but that was not for that long, can't remember, maybe 2 weeks.

Nikki305 · 28/07/2021 11:00

Day 1: sweaty, clingy, off food, threw up
Day 2: rash on feet
Day 3: rash spread up arms
Day 4: cough started

Now on day 11 and still coughing. Not really eaten much the whole time but appetite seems to be slowly coming back
