Person A -
Person B

Person B visiting at Person As house all day Thursday.

Friday person B gets positive LFT.
Saturday person B gets positive PCR.

Person A gets PCR today... Negative.

Does person A have to quarantine now they've got a negative PCR?

Does that mean they defo didn't catch it?

No, they shouldn't have had a PCR until/unless they begin to show symptoms.

They should isolate for 10 days from the contact.

4PawsGood · 26/07/2021 14:49

Can take up to ten days to develop it so that’s why the isolation period is ten days.

Smartiepants79 · 26/07/2021 14:50

It means they probably don’t have it but they still have to isolate in case is presents itself later on.

Bobholll · 26/07/2021 14:50

Yes. Close contact = 10 days isolation

Person A might still have it .. they didn’t need to test, only if they have symptoms.

Smartiepants79 · 26/07/2021 14:51

An close contacts are now advised to have pcr tests with or without symptoms- we were anyway.

Abraxan · 26/07/2021 14:52

No, they shouldn't have had a PCR until/unless they begin to show symptoms.

This is no longer true.
You are now advised to get a PCR if you a close contact of a confirmed case.

Cookerhood · 26/07/2021 14:53

You can get a PCR if you are a contact with a positive person (it's an option on the booking site now) - although I don't really see the point, you can be negative one day & positive the next, and you still have to isolate anyway. As PP said, it can take yup to 10 days to become positive (actually longer, but most people are positive within 10 days if they are going to be).

Abraxan · 26/07/2021 14:54

But yes, close contact (person a) needs to self isolate for 10 full days, starting the day after last contact with confirmed case.

The stopping of SI for close contacts doesn't come in until 16 August,

jumpbounce · 26/07/2021 16:40

They have to isolate from 10 days of contact regardless

A family member of mine got symptoms on day 1 them and another family member who was a close contact got lateral flow tests the following day...only the person with the symptoms was positive the other family member was negative...now on day 6 the other family member has a positive lft and has been for a pcr which will presumably be positive as they also now have symptoms.
If they had carried on after the negative a few days ago they would have spread it to more people, as stands they have been isolating as a close contact and therefore haven't put anyone else at risk in the meantime.

Person A needs to isolate for 10 days from contact despite a negative PCR as they are in the incubation period
PeonyTime · 26/07/2021 16:47

Person A needs to isolate for the full 10 days, and get a repeat PCR if they get any covid symptoms (or a positive LFT).
The PCR shows they weren't infectious when they took the test, but they may become infectious over the next few days.

This is wrong. The guidance was updated some weeks ago. Please don't post inaccurate information. A PCR is advised as soon as possible after being confirmed as a contact. Isolation still has to be completed, for now (that will change on 16th Aug).

The guidance was updated some weeks ago. All contacts are advised to get a PCR as soon as possible.

If you are going to give advice please make sure it is the correct up to date advice you are giving.

Imnothereforthedrama · 26/07/2021 18:44

Yes you need to isolate for 10 days if you are a close contact of a positive case , regardless of your pcr because like others have said it can take 10 days .
From 16th august guidance is changing if double jabbed .

Banani · 26/07/2021 18:47

Person A’s negative result is irrelevant (although, yes close contacts are being advised to test now too) and still has to isolate for ten days.

DGFB · 26/07/2021 20:01

Person A needs to isolate for 10 days, regardless of what their PCR says

Katya213 · 26/07/2021 20:53

I've been told to get a PCr test by test and trace, I told them I had no symptoms but they insisted, so I've booked one.
