Double vaccination and isolation. Have I got this right?

I'm hoping to book a holiday in England for the last week of August.

Three of us from one household, all adults, all double vaccinated (or will be by the end of July).

17yo from another household. Not vaccinated.

Apart from me, all young people, who have followed the rules, but are enjoying the relaxations, so fairly high risk that one of us will pick it up.

Have I got it right that if one of us tested positive, only that person would have to isolate and none of us have to isolate for other contacts, the trip being after 16 Aug and all double vaccinated or under 18?

Or is it different if the contact is in your household?

Obviously there must be a reasonable risk that if one of us gets it we all will.

I have to say, having written it down, the idea that heavily mixing young people will be exempt for isolating, does seem very risky.

I think household contacts still have to isolate.

FawnFrenchieMum · 23/07/2021 18:45

I think your correct. No isolating required (for now anyway, until the next U-turn).

Firstworddinosaur · 23/07/2021 19:18

I thought you were correct. Only positive cases have to isolate from end of August, not close contacts. Might be wrong though ...

MaggieFS · 23/07/2021 19:22

I think you are correct, but I haven't double checked!

Ok, thank you. I'm not sure whether to be pleased that we (at least some of us) should get our holiday or stunned at the new lack of protection. I kind of knew I suppose, but it's the first time I've thought through the implications.

What happens if one or more of it contracts "it" while we're away?

Pretty sure if there’s someone positive in your household you all have to isolate. I’d hope so, it’s spread through our house so dread to think how many more would have it if I’d have been going to work etc before I came down with it

rainbowunicorn · 23/07/2021 21:49

Youa re correct OP. After the 16th of August only peole with a positive test will have to isolate. Any contacts will be encouraged to take a PCR test but only have to isolate if they too are positive.

Lemons1571 · 24/07/2021 07:30

I thought it wasnt households. Just the person with the positive test who had to isolate.

Regulus · 24/07/2021 07:36

Currently that is the plan, although I wouldn't base any decision of mine on an government announcement.

You’d all have to do a PCR test - it’s not clear exactly when the test will be needed though, or whether you’d have to isolate while waiting for results?

My understanding is if one of my children or husband test postive i can still go out and about.
Madness seeing how covid Infections in school did spread to siblings and parents .
Don't get me wrong I know some people who dident get covid from another person but quite a lot did.

iloveredpandas · 24/07/2021 07:50

Blimey I assumed household contacts would still have to isolate. That seems a bit mad that they wouldn't!Shock

Santastealer · 24/07/2021 07:56

The thing with household isolating is that you force multiple people into a small space and don’t let them leave for 10 days. The risk is higher here than it would be if they were going about their business during the day time and only sleeping in the family home (in a separate room would be ideal).

No, it isn’t. From the 16th only the person wit the positive isolates, including family members and households
