DH positive but the rest of us are negative

DH tested positive on Tuesday after close contact with a friend at the weekend who had since also tested positive. He was symptomless at the time of testing but has now developed a mild cough and feels a bit rubbish.

I tested me and DS2 yesterday (he has a mild cough) and both are negative. He is a baby though so I'm not sure how well I swabbed him. I didn't test DS1 as he has no symptoms and is a very wriggly and melodramatic toddler, Im not sure id even get near him. I have produced a negative lateral flow this morning.

I know all the isolation guidance, but at home we have just been carrying on as normal. However now my mum and friends are suggesting we should be limiting close contact together and sleeping in separate rooms!? Obviously we have a baby and toddler and live in quite a small house, so I'm not sure how successfully we could keep distance. Now I'm questioning myself!? We are both single jabbed, and all otherwise healthy.

It's really not that contagious. About 10% of household contacts go on to develop symptoms. Lots of people have pre existing immunity etc

VanCleefArpels · 23/07/2021 12:48

Depends on how risk averse you are I suppose. One of my kids tested positive today, I’ve sent them to their room because really don’t want to start another 10 days quarantine should I test positive. If that doesn’t bother you then obviously carry on as usual

saywhatwhatnow · 23/07/2021 12:50

How old is your kid @VanCleefArpels?

My son had Covid last year, he tested positive after contact with another person. There are five of us in this house, he's only young so we carried in as normal, he shares a bedroom with his brother and still did etc

Not of us caught it. We all got tested before returning to work/school in case we were asymptomatic and all were negative.

@saywhatwhatnow

How old is your kid *@VanCleefArpels*?
Young adult

Not sure it 'lady tear' examples are as relevant with Delta.

I know of a few families where one sibling caught it off the other.

It's like @VanCleefArpels I'd keep my distance or keep them away because I don't want to catch it & have to isolate for longer.

Lavenderpillow · 23/07/2021 12:53

On the flip side, all 3 of us in our house have got it. Depends on luck really

SquashMinusIsShit · 23/07/2021 12:53

Lady tear = last year 🤦🏻‍♀️

saywhatwhatnow · 23/07/2021 12:54

@SquashMinusIsShit thought you'd got the wrong thread for a minute

Was wondering what on earth a 'lady tear' was and crossing my legs at the thought!

Two of my DC got it and we made them distance a bit and wear masks when near us. We never caught it from either of them, but this was pre-Delta variant which I think is more contagious.

OP if I were you I'd keep well away.

@VanCleefArpels - did your child test positive on a LFT or a PCR?

Shrimpseyelashes · 23/07/2021 13:08

Both my kids have it at the mo- we haven’t done anything different within the house. No distancing or anything. They are under 10 though. DH and I haven’t been testing daily and so far so good… both double jabbed.

Shrimpseyelashes · 23/07/2021 13:09

DH and I *have been testing daily!!

Getawaywithit · 23/07/2021 13:12

We’ve tested positive this week - 3 out of 4 of us. I guess no. 4 is a matter of time but the lateral flows are negative. Fingers crossed!

saywhatwhatnow · 23/07/2021 13:20

Did you all test positive at the same time? @Getawaywithit

NormaSnorks · 23/07/2021 13:32

DS has it currently. Was sneezing on Thursday last week and tested positive on Saturday morning. I spent nearly an hour in the car with him on Friday and so far - a week later - am still negative. He stayed with his girlfriend on Friday too, and a week later she is still negative with no symptoms.
Give the peak time from infection to symptoms is about 4 days I'm hoping we've dodged it.
DH & I are doubled vaxxed though which hopefully helps!

Getawaywithit · 23/07/2021 13:33

No, we were on holiday. Middle child had headache and body aches. Lateral flows were negative. Something told me to just pack up and get home just in case. Tested middle child on Tuesday and he was positive so the rest of us tested yesterday 2 out of 3 were positive. Negative boy is still doing daily lateral flows - negative again this morning.

Getawaywithit · 23/07/2021 13:34

Should say I am double vaxxed and the child who is negative is CV.

crumpet · 23/07/2021 13:34

@VanCleefArpels aren’t you automatically obliged to isolate if someone in your house is positive? That counts as close contact surely?

DisappearingGirl · 23/07/2021 13:39

I am double jabbed and DP is single jabbed, two primary age kids. Me and DC2 tested positive so we all isolated, but didn't really attempt to isolate from each other (small house). Six days later, DP and DC1 tested positive.

We are - the issue is whether the (currently) Covid free residents are mixing in the house with the infected one. We have chosen to go down the route of the infected one staying away from us to minimise possibility of us catching it (if we haven’t already!!) and therefore prolonging the purgatory. We are lucky in that we live in a big house, everyone has their own bathroom etc. I can see how it would be tricky with younger kids and/or a small home

Waiting for PCR after positive LFT. They are also symptomatic so not really any doubts! Single vax due to age…

HamSandwichKiller · 23/07/2021 13:49

My son had it last week and passed it on to me.
DH hasn't caught it.

I wouldn't bother with the LFT. You all need to isolate anyway so there's little point.
It's not like you're going to socially distance from a baby or toddler even if they get it and you don't.

Keep good hygiene and see how it plays out.
