Discussing the vaccine with our teenagers tonight, one of which is 18 next year.

Besides the obvious covid related benefits, can anyone help to out her mind at rest for reasons to have it. All she has heard of are the negatives, such as potential infertility etc.

She feels like she doesn't have choices

This is not the same thing as abortion, organ donotion or "do not resuscitate" orders. These affect only the individual.

Not getting the vaccine does not only put yourself at risk from a deadly disease, but also those who are far more vulnerable than you are at dying from it. Not getting vaccinated and still wanting no restrictions is like wanting to smoke indoors. It's is selfish AF.[/quote]
I strongly disagree with you. Bodily autonomy in any context is paramount. We either have autonomy or we don't. There is no in between.

As I said, I am pro vaccine but I am primarily pro choice and I do not want to live in a country that does not respect a persons right to full consent, whether I would be personally affected by it or not.

If ever there's a time it's acceptable to be selfish, it is concerning medical treatment. However people arguing for vac passports are unforgivably selfish.

One huge benefit to her will be that she is unlikely to pass covid on to others. My young 's main reasons to have it done were : wanting to travel, wanting to protect aged DGM and vulnerableDB, and not wanting to catch it themselves in the case of said vulnerable DS and DC who works with the public.

A lot of the younger people I'm seeing are having it because they want to go on holiday.
Rightly or wrongly this is likely to be the future now..as much other countries policy as ours. No jab, no entry.
I'm going to a concert on Tuesday and they want proof of a negative text or double vaccination on entry.

@BlaBlaSmthSmth

You don't get to have bodily autonomy at the expense of someone else's life. People could make the same argument about drinking and driving.
In fact there is a thread on this forum right now about a woman getting chewed out because she is trying to prevent her husband from killing someone with his irresponsible drinking behavior.

Your bodily autonomy ends where it encroaches on someone else's.

You do get bodily autonomy when it comes to medical decisions though so that's just not true, is it?

I have no idea why you are bringing drunk driving into this conversation, the two things are not comparable and it's completely unnecessary to keep making comparisons with things that are not medical.

I seriously cannot believe some people have let themselves get into such a state that they are actually arguing against bodily autonomy.

Fucking hell.
