Can my employer ask me to share my vaccination status?

Just that really. We've been warned it's coming and we'll be expected to confirm we've been vaccinated.

Am I compelled to answer? Any one been asked?

@omgthepain

We test twice a week at work and input the test batch number and result into a system

Why wouldn't you want to keep colleagues safe???

@curiousemployee123 it's people like you that are the problem

So many assumptions in your reply. So many incorrect assumptions. I have had the vaccination (both of them) but question whether it is acceptable to be asked

I have two cleaners both who have chosen not to be vaccinated - one is lovely but a total vaccination conspiracy believer so will never have the jab. I appreciate knowing their status as it means I make decisions on what sort of risk they pose in my home. ie I am more careful around the lovely but nutty one as I know she doesn't care two hoots if she gets coronavirus while the other is more careful as she has elderly cleaning clients. They were both wearing N95 masks until I had had two jabs but now they wear normal masks when cleaning. If the one who is not anti vax just not sure its right for her - ends up getting jabbed I might do away with her masks all together. But I don't think I will if she stays unvaccinated.

Our HR department asked about vaccination status and I was very happy to say, but then yes I have been vaccinated. But they also know about any health issues I've had due to sickness records. Their job along with Occupational Health is to enable people with health problems to work. So I've had chats about my mental health for example and been able to talk to my manager about physical difficulties with my role. Vaccination status could also affect your job or role. Maybe your work just wants to have an idea of who has been vaccinated or can't be vaccinated or choose not to be vaccinated for lots of reasons such as risk assessments etc. When we were in lockdown, people who were extremely vulnerable were not expected to come into work and were asked to WFH, which was a good thing. We were asked then to say if we were vulnerable or not. This is not much different really.

In some occupations there will very soon be exemption from isolation if double jabbed. Someone needs to know which employees will have to stay off work as not vaccinated and which ones can still go to work.

Covidworries · 22/07/2021 22:05

I was asked. Its so the management can update the risk assessments. It was made clear that there was no pressure either way and i know some people havent.

There's loads of professions that already have to disclose vaccinations and have certain vaccinations to practice.

Outside of health care & social care, what professions are those?

The requirement for some types of social care is brand new as of a few days ago, too, didn't exist before.

Engineers, lawyers, teachers, hairdressers, chemists, maybe?

Sirzy · 22/07/2021 22:08

With changes to isolation when pinged coming in next month for those double vaccinated then of course employers will want to know so they can plan slightly better

I work in a very large office. We are currently still working from home but when we return there will be one set of precautions for people who are happy to declare that they have been vaccinated, and another - more stringent - set of precautions for those who have not been vaccinated or choose not to declare it.

From what I can work out, the differences seem to be things like which areas of the building you can access, where and when you have to wear a mask etc.

@Spinxsta

Agreed….there are a few jobs out there where certain vaccinations are mandatory and status is shared with the employer…and they are not always healthcare related occupations.
JoeMaplin · 22/07/2021 23:00

Yes I have been asked, we had to provide copies of our vaccination cards. I work in social care but not personal care/medical/ nursing/care related.

My work asks for our vaccination status for pretty much everything as part of H&S checks before we travel. If we are missing any needed for country we are visiting they either offer them onsite (we have a nurse employed to run occupational health who can give them) or pay for you to get them. I know no one who won’t tell them what you have. They are just covering themselves to make sure if you don’t have them someone has discussed the risks and you’ve agreed to them. In this case they’ll likely need to know as there are bound to be places you won’t get without a vaccine

aiwblam · 22/07/2021 23:02

I think at this stage, when we are far from our exit from this pandemic, that it is a reasonable question. Presumably it is in an effort to keep people safe, whether that is colleagues, clients, public etc.

canigooutyet · 22/07/2021 23:04

Wonder how the large office will deal with those who are exempt.

I'm sure there have been tribunals and things over the years taken by those who have been pushed out due to health reasons. The thing when it comes to discrimination, it's very hard for those people to hide their views which goes to add to the wronged case for them to win.

The vaccine isn't a protected characteristic but health can be.

PortMerrionCentre · 22/07/2021 23:07

Double jabbed but I refused to update my personnel records with my vaccination status, just as I have refused to tell my employer my religion, my sexuality and my “gender identity”. And I have not told them what my father’s job was, which was requested so that my employer knew which social class I could be pigeonholed into.
None of those things is relevant to my ability to do my job. And I’ve worked in a public facing role throughout; my employer wasn’t worried about any risk to my health in March 2020.

We were told that notifying our vaccination status would help the NHS with planning - but the NHS already knows I’ve been jabbed

GrettaGreen · 22/07/2021 23:07

@canigooutyet

And the pp has just emphasised why I don't disclose. I do have allergies and I would be annoyed at my boss still trying to convince me to have anything I am allergic to. It's not down to them to then go and source information to try and persuade me.

And what is so wrong with having fertility concerns considering that some females are reporting how it's impacting their cycle.

Absolutely nothing wrong with having concerns about the impact on fertility or if people have genuine allergies to ingredients. Running round the houses with vauge I'm thinking about its and need more info rather than just having an open and honest conversation that they don't want it is just a pain for everyone. FWIW I didn't take the 2nd jab yet as I'll be starting fertility treatment soon and there's no way I'm taking any chance that my cycle might be messed about with. My boss didn't have a 100 conversations with me as it was a polite, outright "I'm not having it" when asked for the date of the 2nd.
canigooutyet · 22/07/2021 23:43

Your boss sounds like a reasonable person.

I find it bizarre that the fertility concerns are often mocked. The sperm trials finished not that long ago, yet many people don't even realise that this has been done. The results haven't even been published yet.

I completely understand why people have concerns as there is still a lot we don't know about the vaccines because various things are still being trialled.
