Just curious!

I'm.sute it's happened plenty of times. Nothing much but you might think any symptoms were the vaccine not Covid.

I find myself in this position. Had jab 2 on Saturday. Positive lateral flow on Monday... thought I was just feeling really rubbish because of the jab!

Choconuttolata · 21/07/2021 22:59

Hopefully they would have a better immune response and antibody production after the first dose and have greater protection than someone who had not had natural infection prior to their first dose. The data seem to support this, some countries count natural infection and 1 vaccine as sufficient for protection.

I had mine 8 weeks after symptomatic natural infection and didn't really have any side effects.

Lakeshore6 · 21/07/2021 22:59

I did.
I was negative the day before.
I got my second vaccine and then that evening I tested positive on a LFD which was confirmed with a PCR.

I don’t know if having the vaccine and COVID to deal with together made the whole experience worse , but I was laid up in my bed for over a week, and couldn’t get out of it for much.

I assume the vaccinator isolated as a close contact too :(

I was wondering about this myself. Several of my students have recently tested positive for Covid after doing regular lfts, but had no symptoms. In a couple of cases, they were about to have their first jab the following week. They could easily not have realised they had Covid and gone ahead with the jab, and I’m sure some people have.

Homeontherangeuk · 22/07/2021 00:02

It's interesting especially now as it seems many don't realise they have it or are asymptomatic.. As cooker head said many may blame the side effects on the vaccine when in fact they were positive at the time of vaccination...

I wondered about this too. I delayed my second AZ dose because I had a stomach bug. I had it about 10 days later in the end.

Then a bit later on I read that diarrhoea was a commonly reported symptom of Delta. So in theory my "stomach bug" could have been covid DH and DS didn't have any symptoms at all though (DH fully vaccinated but DS hadn't had his first dose at that point).

What is supposed to happen if you are vaccinated within 28 days of having covid?

Homeontherangeuk · 23/07/2021 00:18

I have no idea but I'm interested as surely alot of people have contracted covid & unknowingly got the jab?

I have a relative who this happened to.

I read that having a vaccine at time of illness can potentially reduce efficacy, but as there’s a 2nd dose with the Covid vaccines it doesn’t really matter because we know that natural immunity + one vaccine = strong protection. Possibly even stronger than those without a prior natural infection.

Homeontherangeuk · 23/07/2021 08:24

Was your relative OK?

It can lower the effects of the vaccination as your immune system is already fighting it. But the US studies into Pfizer and moderna have been showing that infection followed by one Jan within 6 months produces a greater antibody protection level than those who are double dosed but never had the infection. Its why some countries choose to only give one dose if you have had covid in the last 6 months.

The cohorts of the studies are still small but think its ongoing elsewhere as well.

TheSockMonster · 23/07/2021 08:34

I’d assumed it was just to avoid wasting vaccines by spacing exposure. I expect they’d get us all to take tests first if they thought there was a risk. At least I hope they would anyway!

Whathefisgoingon · 23/07/2021 09:07

@Homeontherangeuk Yes, fine. It was her second time getting Covid, this time worse than the last though she managed at home.

Unfortunately her covid symptoms decided to show up on on the same day as her vaccination, so there was some confusion from medics as to what was going on. They put her fever down to the vaccine and wanted to see her up at the hospital, where she sat for hours with many elderly frail people. She doesn’t think she was on a red ward either, which is just terrible and played on her mind for some time.

They tested her for a few things including covid; and the result came back positive the next day. Worth noting her LFT was negative!

If it puts your mind at ease at all, they probably won't have had to do that as they are in PPE and only next to you for a very short time Flowers

Thank you @Cosybelles

Loo19 · 17/12/2021 12:18

How were you? Were you bad ? I’m in the same position and have heard it can bad as having the vaccine so close can exaggerate the symptoms
