Be honest, if you felt slightly ill on holiday would you get tested or just get on with it?

Inspired by the thread of a poster's child testing positive

Take a test just for my own curiosity, then go out either way

ForgedInFire · 21/07/2021 22:44

Slightly ill I would get on with it. A proper fever/bad cough/loss of taste and smell and I would test. I am probably a bit jaded because we have done so many tests for mild symptoms that have come back negative that I don't even think about mild symptoms any more.

Tootsey11 · 21/07/2021 22:45

Agree with @Darbs76 no wonder we are in this situation.

Do most of you realise that the symptoms for the delta variant are not the standard 3. I despair reading these comments.

I just looked on the Gov site and it still says to get PCR test for the main 3 symptoms.
Frauhubert · 21/07/2021 22:53

If i lost sense of taste and smell & had a temperature - yes definitely. If i had a sniffle, maybe not

MyDaughtersLeftFoot · 21/07/2021 22:54

I felt a bit ropey today while swimming witb DD and did a lat flow test as soon as we got home. I wouldn’t hesitate to do the same on holiday. What’s the harm? I think with Delta it’s clear that symptoms are less classic. I would hate to realise a whole heap of people had potentially been exposed to something by me that could be terrible for them for the sake of a half hour test. Double jagged people (I’ve only had one still) are still at risk, so is everyone. It just seems like such a small thing to do.

Sadly it seems the symptoms of the Delta variant are different & often exactly like a cold or hay fever, you can't tell without a test.

Tootsey11 · 21/07/2021 23:04

The government have refused to update the symptoms list. Primary school children could do a better job of handling this pandemic than the useless lot of tossers we have.

Regardless of that, surely its down to us to do the right thing. Clearly some of you don't give a toss about anyone else.

I thought LFTs were not appropriate if you had symptoms?
Gertie75 · 21/07/2021 23:09

A new persistent cough then yes I'd test but a bit off the hooks then no I wouldn't test.

Bagelsandbrie · 21/07/2021 23:15

I’m not even sure anymore. I think if we’re going on the assumption that those adults who are clinically extremely vulnerable (like me) have had both vaccines now and are likely to only get a milder form of the illness like most other people then what are we trying to achieve by testing and isolating? We can’t eradicate it and we’ve been told by the (useless) government that the NHS isn’t overwhelmed (yet) so I think if we’re going down that route then surely we should all just be cracking on with it all and not even testing anymore unless we get into a medical emergency type situation where the NHS would need to know what it was dealing with….?

I think there’s a whole moral issue about spreading it - especially where many cev children haven’t had any vaccines etc though. It’s very difficult.

GreenSalon · 21/07/2021 23:26

We brought lateral flow tests on holidays with us (coastal town two hours drive away). Had to come home after first day as two children tested positive. All five of us now have it confirmed by pcr test in spite of DH and I being double jabbed. DH has been REALLY ill as have 2 out of 3 of the children. None of us have had the 3 main symptoms listed but rather runny noses, vomiting, pins and needles etc. It’s really nasty and I’m mortified that we didn’t know and dismissed initial symptoms as hayfever

Direstraitsmates · 21/07/2021 23:26

I'd just continue my holiday.

TheVampiresWife · 21/07/2021 23:39

As a slight aside - me and DH are hopefully going for a couple of weekends away next month, just UK city break type things. What are you meant to do if you test positive while you're away, but you've used public transport to get there?

MyDaughtersLeftFoot · 21/07/2021 23:46

@XenoBitcha I didn’t have a classic symptom, if I had I’d have booked a PCR. Lat flows have been made available/encouraged for using twice a week. Instead of testing to a schedule on say two set days a week, I do them when we’re doing things out of the ordinary, like for a wedding we were attending (within restrictions) or today when I had a sore head. I’m not burning through tests by the way! Just being sensible.

roguetomato · 22/07/2021 00:12

If there's a chance that I would get into contact with anyone, then it's very irresponsible to just get on with it and possibly spread, especially at holiday location. Not only horrible thing to do to the local people, there's chance I can pass it onto other holiday makes and they can spread to other places too.
Now we all know that Delta symptoms are similar to simple cold, it's selfish not to test, imo.

CataclysmicVariable · 22/07/2021 00:28

What do you mean by “a little bit ill”? I had conjunctivitis last week and felt a bit crap because my eyes were sore but I didn’t get a test for covid.

And what do you mean by “get tested” - LFT or PCR (and associated isolation)?

You will just have to despair then, most people don't spend all their time looking up symptoms that it may be, they just go by the government guidance.

We don't all know though, only on here and places like Facebook and Twitter are people so obsessed with it. a lot of people in real life just half watch the news and perhaps the odd Boris news conference.

Pepperama · 22/07/2021 05:05

Definitely test. Wouldn’t want to spread it and Delta symptoms are more like cold/ flu/gastro bug - almost no one has the classic cough and taste loss now. We do lateral flows once or twice a week anyway as cases in area are still quite high

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/07/2021 05:05

If I just felt tired/run down I wouldn't test as I always feel tired! I'd probably only test if I had a cough or high temperature.

True, if it wasn't for mumsnet I would have no idea

If you're on holiday abroad then you won't be able to 'come home' if you test positive, you'll be stuck on your room in a quarantine hotel for 10 days.

You have to test before you leave so you there is no point in ignoring symptoms and just 'getting on' with your holiday!

ragged · 22/07/2021 08:17

honestly...? Nobody wants honest answers.

stayathomer · 22/07/2021 08:20

I think if I had a bad headache or cough or sore throat I would but otherwise no (and that's ridiculous as when I had covid my symptoms were lethargy and a heavy chest)
