Track and trace now schools don't do it

My DC know a couple of children are out as awaiting PCR results. If positive, track and trace now deal with contacts, rather than school I think...

How does this work? My DC don't know surnames of all classmates and I certainly don't know how to contact them to share details. So is it just if the positive case knows your name/number, otherwise you won't be contacted?

Also saw this online which suggests from Step 4 (19 July) children who are contacts only have to isolate until negative PCR but not seen this elsewhere is this accurate? It's on a government site but...

I think the assumption will be that school contact doesn't count as close contact any more.

sol7 · 21/07/2021 18:45

My DC tested positive. Test and Trace asked for the name and address of the school but don't seem to have isolated anyone.

GiantToadstool · 21/07/2021 18:47

Pretty much what our sxhool letter suggested too. "Sleepovers" were the given example of a close contact.

As schools have been considered a key vector of transmission or whatever it was this can only mean they're expecting it to spread in schools and are okay with that. Maybe just hoping they all get it and are then immune for a bit?

SpringRainbow · 21/07/2021 19:12

I think they have just given up as far as schools are concerned. The current plans seems to be that from September it’s back to normal.

They have found a study which tells them that most children will be perfectly fine, and so they are just going to cross their fingers and hope for the best.

Will this still be the case when September comes, who knows Hmm

Gosh, that's good in one way as not likely to start the summer with 10 days indoors but a bit ridiculous to go from sending whole bubbles home to ignoring the fact children spend 6 hours a day together at school.

Makes as much sense as everything else this government have done I guess Confused

Our head is quite adamant that “we are not sending any bubbles home this week”. If anyone tests positive he kindly asks that we let him know but basically won’t have anything to do with spoiling the start of the summer hols for any of the families. He has no idea how this will actually work in practice except for “not very well”

I think this is exactly the idea
Santastealer · 21/07/2021 20:15

Test and trace don’t count classroom contacts as close contacts anymore.

It’s only contact from a close social setting such as teen relationships; or sleepovers, that would be asked to isolate.

Ds tested positive today. Symptoms started Monday evening but was in school on Monday as was feeling fine then. Track and trace didn't take his school details so I imagine there's a few infected contacts with who are none the wiser. Seems bonkers to me!

thefemaleJoshLyman · 21/07/2021 20:27

This is possibly outing but DS’s teacher seems to have tested positive today. Children have been sent home but with no need to isolate. I’m just wondering if a positive pcr test would change that? Hopefully not, we’re due on holiday next week.

Darbs76 · 21/07/2021 20:27

Seems bonkers to me as my DS caught it at school and now I’ve got it too. This was last week so his close contacts got sent home. Guess they want herd immunity in teens

GiantToadstool · 21/07/2021 20:38

Thefemale that sounds more like a staffing issue than a required ro isolate issue...

thefemaleJoshLyman · 21/07/2021 20:47

@GiantToadstool I am really hoping so! It is primary and I keep asking DS whether he has stood next to his teacher at all!!!

Bsmirched · 21/07/2021 21:06

It's completely bonkers. Positive PCR from a child in my class yesterday, who was in all day on Monday. Tiny classroom, incredibly stuffy even with the windows open as there was just no breeze yesterday. Deafening silence from Test and Trace and we've broken up today.

I agree. They don’t want to spend money on making schools safer (if indeed this is remotely possible) and they want the parents back in work consistently. So, shove em all back in ala 2019 I guess.
GiantToadstool · 21/07/2021 23:04

Bsmirched... almost as if they want it to spread isnt it....hmm...

QueenofLouisiana · 21/07/2021 23:23

We finished yesterday. A child with a positive result came to our attention today. A number of classmates are now isolating, so we still seem to be doing Track and Trace!
