Do you think there will be a rapid PCR / gold standard test, given the predicted move towards testing in (primary) schools?

I know we have LFT

I know Secondary School kids should test twice a week

But what I I asking is do you think there will be a more rapid version of the gold standard test?

We are on our 7th PCR test since March and whilst results have been between 27h and 8h, it's still meant 3 children miss at least 1 day of school x7.

Is a more rapid PCR test even a viable option? If not what is?

I'm so worried about the disruption to my kids if this is how bad things have been for us in summer (it's essentially been a cough passed between all 3 kids but they haven't caught it at the same time.... all tests have thankfully been negative)

This needs to happen. Also, they need to develop a better test for younger kids that doesn't involve sticking a swab in a nostril

Well, not any time soon or my guess is they'd already be shouting about it.

Whatever happened to the spit test trials? Haven't heard anything about that for ages.

They used a rapid pcr for hospital workers and their family.

PLR isn't the gold standard, it's just the least shite test we have.

Southampton university has been using a saliva test. Not sure why it's not being used more widely - I assume it's too expensive.

HSHorror · 21/07/2021 12:20

It wouldnt be more expensive as you could pool a whole school test....
More like they didnt want to stop transmission in kids
