Re-opening…we aren’t the only country!

So I’ve seen lots of doom and gloom recently about reopening and all the people we are about to kill off. Also that we are the only country dropping all restrictions.

I’ve just spoken to my friend in Canada. As a whole they were extremely impressed with the UK vaccination rollout but although they started later, Canada has now double jabbed over 50% of adults and children over 12, over 80% with one vaccine. They are now open as usual to people who live there. There doesn’t appear to be the same media coverage with such negative connotations there. Why?

Are we addicted to the drama? Is it all scaremongering?

I double checked all figures so it’s not just “my friend said”.

What do you all think?

@JassyRadlett

NEtherlands seems to have plateaued like us but who knows if it will hold

Could I check what figures you’re seeing that suggest case rates have plateaued?

I was wondering the same thing.

I just looked at

Thanks @Quartz2208. I'm sorry, I wasn't precise - I meant UK cases.

Based on specimen dates, we still seem to be a pretty steadily exponential space.

US level 4 is fairly similar I think to Amberplus for us

Not really.

Level 4 is an advisory for US residents considering travelling abroad from the US. Because the UK is now so high risk, US residents are being strongly advised not to travel there. The Netherlands is also on the list, but no other European countries.

In terms of border control, the US is not allowing travellers in directly from the UK or Europe unless they are US citizens and direct family, lawful permanent residents or have an exception.

Whereas Amberplus in the UK means you can come in from that country but have to meet quarantine and testing requirements.

We really are very lucky

No, you really aren't, and I would love to know what this country is which thinks the UK has done so well.
