If you had the choice of all 3 vaccines - which would you go for?

Up until now I had decided not to get the vaccine for various reasons but have now had a change of heart and decided to go ahead

I am in the fortunate position of being local to several drop in clinics so have the choice of all 3

I am female, mid 40s, reasonably healthy, although a bit fat and some healthy conditions

Close relative became quite seriously ill in hospital after AstraZeneca which has put me off that but appreciate this doesn't mean the same will happen to me

Just wondered on opinions please. And if possible for the thread not to turn into a vax/anti vax debate please.

Thank you

I wouldn't opt for AZ just because I was so poorly after my first dose- it too me a month to fully recover.

A friend had both AZ jabs and is now very poorly with Covid. Sad

Just my personal experience, but I'd go for Pfizer if I had the choice.

Lottie4 · 21/07/2021 10:19

There's a lot of publicity to the effect that Pfizer is more efficient, but I saw a study the other day where AZ was holding it's own. I don't know anyone who has had Moderna. Fully vaccinated with AZ and happy with that, but I'd chose between Pfizer and AZ.

MarthaJonesPhone · 21/07/2021 10:37

I had AZ, no real side effects apart from a bit if a hangover after first jab.

My 2 young DC both had Covid at the same time and I had them in bed with me. I didn't catch anything.

So on that basis I would choose AZ without a doubt.

All three of us here have had two diesels of Pfizer: me and Dh who are late 40/s and 19y Dd.

Worst side effect we've had was a sore arm. I had a little bit of a headache briefly but nothing too bad.

oneglassandpuzzled · 21/07/2021 10:44

I've been happy with both AZ jabs. I only had very mild side-effects.

And it's a hell of a lot easier to administer, from the provider point of view.

I want a diesel of Pfizer too! Smile
oneglassandpuzzled · 21/07/2021 10:46

Don't put diesel into your Pfizer: you'll be banned from city centres for pollution reasons.

Grin @RumblyMumbly I think my nightclub days might be behind me! Although where I am nightclubs aren't even allowed to open, so not even got the option.

Agree re ask a medic - well I tried that after my relative was extremely ill after the AZ and has been left with long term side effects that no medic can say wether or not are permanent. I was just told everyone is different, read up, it isn't mandatory! Similar to my sil who is going through ivf asked both GP and consultant. Neither would advise her, told her it was up to her. So in my small sample of asking medics I feel like I have had a much better and more helpful response from a bunch of randoms on the internet. So thank you!! SmileThanks

A lot of hospital staff catching it and they have had the Pfizer
Seastheday03 · 21/07/2021 14:59

Thank you.

Sil is anxious about the reports of Pfizer messing up the menstrual cycle and she's due to start treatment within the month. I think her plan is to pretty much shield - both working from home and able to continue to do so and no other kids - and just hope for the best!

@NotPersephone

The period problems have been reported with all 3 vaccines as I understand it. I had Moderna and they’re haywire now…
This is true. Covid has also had a lot of links with menstrual cycle changes. Anything that has a big impact on the body's immune system will create immune stress and therefore affect hormones, which can have a temporary effect on menstruation. We know fertility isn't affected because of pregnancies.post vaccine, so it's one of those things to just be aware of rather than frightened of.
3womeninaboat · 21/07/2021 20:19

I deliberately avoided choosing. I know I’m not qualified to make an informed decision so I took whatever the system allocated. Nobody’s ever been interested in the particular brand of any other vaccine they’ve been getting for other illnesses so I suspect it’s not that important, rather just the illusion of control. I ended up with Pfizer.

Dustyboots · 21/07/2021 20:47

I'm not having any and am holding out for a whole virus vaccine

What is this @WeatheringStorms22?

Helensburghmiddleagedmum · 21/07/2021 20:53

I had the AZ as did everyone else I know except my mil who had Pfizer. I was ill after both jabs more so after first. If I had a choice now I wouldn't have Pfizer not because of side effects but because I know of loads of people who have still been ill with covid after 2 az jabs, one even spent a week in hospital on oxygen and steroids, it doesn't seem to be very good

SophieB100 · 21/07/2021 21:30

Pfizer.
Had 2 jabs of AZ - for which I am forever grateful. Thank you scientists!
Felt as rough as a badger's behind for 4 days after first jab - but so what, small price to pay.
Lucky, lucky us - a year ago we would have been thrilled to have a thread discussing "which vaccine" wouldn't we?

Katya213 · 21/07/2021 22:01

I had AZ, no problems so would opt for that one.

Cookerhood · 21/07/2021 22:19

Any of them. I had AZ early & was very grateful to be protected early on. My 2nd is unknown as I'm on a trial (suspect AZ). I feel sorry for AZ as their PR has been so poor compared to Pfizer.

This, but ended up with AZ- minimal side effects. The vaccinated people I know who went on to develop COVID are about 50/50 vaccine types both in terms of cases and severity of symptoms

To play devils advocate here though I know 2 people who have had both vaccines who have covid at the moment and are really quite unwell with it, one had moderna and the other had pfizer!

Most people who had AZ I know seem to have had quite strong side effects, so I’d pick one of the others personally. I had pfizer and my only side effects were a sore arm and a bit tired after my first dose. Second was fine.

Growtheroses · 22/07/2021 08:18

I've had AZ X2 but if we have a winter or spring booster I want to go for Pfizer.

Lampzade · 22/07/2021 08:19

PFizer bit my surgery only had AZ.
I have had terrible side effect
