Any under 40s having provlems getting a Pfizer jab??

Indigopearl · 20/07/2021 05:22

Looking at the numbers being vaccinated at the moment they are very low and I am wondering if this is a.supply or demand issue?

We originally had 40 million doses of pfizer so enough for 20 million people. I am not sure how many over 40s received it and there are 20 million people in the UK aged 18 to 40 so things are pretty tight.

So I am wondering if people are experiencing any issues booking a jab?

Why do you say this? It has been reported in the press as a supply issue www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2021/06/16/cannot-let-vaccine-roll-run-steam/amp/

Demand has dropped. I live in a London borough with low take up and there are Pfizer walk in clinics every week in pharmacies, community centres, even in parks.

OliveTree75 · 20/07/2021 06:56

They're handing them out like sweets in my area!

QueenStromba · 20/07/2021 08:41

Sussex has walk in clinics in several towns every day offering Pfizer or Moderna. Fewer AZ clinics and only second doses.

RobinPenguins · 20/07/2021 08:43

I’m in the NE and have had absolutely no difficulty booking 2nd dose, I’ve rearranged it a few times and there’s been loads of choice. Loads of walk in clinics too and a vaccine bus going to different sites around the city.

Indigopearl · 20/07/2021 08:50

Thanks all. Ok great that is good news. I could not find any information online about what our stocks are like and when the next batch is due.

Demand is now very low.

However I do think that the fact that there is no full steam ahead decision on vaccinating the 12-17s related to future supply issues.

I do know that lots of new pfizer is due in September which would fit that narrative. Right now there's enough to vaccinate the remaining adults (though most of them have now probably decided against) and some vulnerable children only.

Def no problem round here getting pfizer right now the issue is getting the remaining people to get it.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 20/07/2021 10:29

Definitely a demand issue at my vaccine hub we can't give them away. Most of our clinics are now walk in but you can also pre book to be guaranteed a dose at the moment we have around 25-30% DNA which is really frustrating

alloalloallo · 20/07/2021 10:41

We have lots of walk in clinics being advertised for Pfizer round here.

AZ seems to be the one that’s more difficult to get hold of. DH had AZ and tried to bring his 2nd jab forward but couldn’t

Abraxan · 20/07/2021 10:57

The walk in centres locally are offering everyone a choice of vaccines.

All under 30s are routinely being offered Moderna or Pfizer, but over 30s were being given a choice for their first vaccine at the door.

That was for the 'pop up' walk in centres, rather than the permanent ones.

HarrietOh · 20/07/2021 11:03

Nightingale was very quiet and plenty of Moderna available. They said demand had dropped past couple of weeks.

MsSquiz · 20/07/2021 11:06

I'm in the North East and just had my 2nd Pfizer vaccination this morning. I booked it by appointment, but the place I went is also offering walk ins as well as the local council sharing a post every day showing where has walk in availability as well as where the vaccination bus will be for the next week

Bobholll · 20/07/2021 13:35

They cannot give doses away in my area.. there are about 10 walk in centres & huge pushes by the council & GP’s to advertise them but young people just don’t seem to be that interested at the mo. Demand is really, really low. We’ve got people desperate for second jabs & my vaccine centre are doing second jabs from 3 weeks post first Pfizer as we have so much surplus vaccine! (I volunteer).

Our vaccine rate here is OK. 79% 1st dose which isn’t awful..

I recon we’d have more success if they started handing out £10 or a bottle of beer for ever one done 😂😂

I think they are in the US. There is even a pot for shots campaign in Michigan Grin

That's how Israel got their 20 year olds to be done - a free beer after their jab!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 20/07/2021 15:02

There doesn’t seem to be a supply issue where I am. I’ve managed to make 3 appointments for my second jab, first at 11.5 weeks after the first, then 9 weeks and now 8 weeks after the first. There are drop in clinics and a number of vaccination centres. More seem to be popping up all the time.

However, all appointments that I’ve been offered have needed my own transport to reach them. The drop-in sessions are only Saturdays. I’ve booked my second appointment for Thursday morning and I’m fortunate that mine and DH’s work will allow us time in the week to get our Covid jabs. We also work from home so don’t have to worry about side effects and commuting. Both of our employers will pay us sick leave if we have bad side effects with the vaccine and need to take a day or two off. If I worked Saturdays/shift work, no access to a car and less flexible work then it doesn’t matter how good the supply is as I still wouldn’t be able to get vaccinated. I think in addition to the younger generation not seeing a need for the vaccine due to their risks, these are more likely to be affected by the logistics of the vaccine centres.

Your links are a month old. It’s currently a demand issue, although obviously things can change.
