What are people doing about family childcare in light of rising case rates?

I’m curious as to what other people are doing about family childcare over the holidays in view of rising case rates. We have a few weeks where our planned childcare isn’t available and my DPs have very kindly offered to help us out. (They live at a distance but were very involved with the kids pre-pandemic). Kids are 6 and 1. We are also supposed to stay with them in the holidays.

DPs are vulnerable in view of age; DM has a medical condition which makes her extremely vulnerable to Covid. Both are fully vaccinated. DH and I will be fully vaccinated after this week.

I am starting to worry in view of rising case rates. We are more exposed to Covid as a household than I’d like as both DH and I commute into central London several times a week. We can reduce this but can’t work exclusively from home. Kids are in school/childcare, then childcare together (small setting so fairly low risk).

I am starting to wonder whether we should be using DPs for childcare and indeed staying with them. Realistically, there is no way we can isolate in advance. It just isn’t possible.

What are others doing in this situation? My DM is fairly sanguine about risk and it’s up to her as she is the one most at risk, but I’m starting to worry. Am I being overly anxious?

I've been using my parents whenever it has been permitted throughout (both in 70's one who is CV). They wanted to keep seeing the kids and we needed peace to work so win win.

Our GPs have not seen us since before the pandemic as both sets live around 200 miles away and they are not prepared to risk staying overnight with us. No idea when we will see them again, maybe next year. They are in their 70s but no other vulnerabilities.
