Getting really scared.

Hello,
Please bare with me - I have extreme, medicated anxiety and I'm feeling completely overwhelmed.

Over the last week or so, more and more people I know are testing positive for covid. It's becoming really overwhelming and I'm so scared it's beginning to cause me horrible, worsening anxiety. (I am already medicated for extreme anxiety and OCD)

I am getting so scared. How can the world be going back to normal in less than 3 hours, yet cases seem to be soaring and will undoubtedly soar even more so once things begin to open up, and masks and social distancing rules are for the most part, scrapped / discretionary?!

I am also so worried about how covid can affect those that are double jabbed.. as everyone I know that has it currently, is double jabbed!!

Has anybody that is double jabbed had covid? My partner and I are both overweight, quite largely, and I am so scared that although we are double jabbed, this could still be fatal for us if caught let alone passing it onto others.

I am so sorry if this sounds rambly. I really suffer with my mental health at the best of times but covid has just about pushed me over the edge and I don't know where to turn.

My neighbour currently has covid & is double jabbed. He’s had a reasonable cough & says it’s like a bad cold but otherwise he says he is fine. The heat hasn’t helped on the couple days he felt quite rough! He’s on day 4 now & was sat sunbathing & running round the garden with his kids..

It’s only story but I think it’s fairly common if you are double jabbed!

@Bobholll there great to hear, it's so nice to know that the majority of those that are double jabbed are feeling, for the most part, fairly well considering.

This might be useful to check if there’s an outdoor swimming place near you. www.wildswimming.co.uk/east-of-england/norfolk-and-broads/?multi_city=norfolk-and-broads

I’ve just recovered from covid. Haven’t had any jab yet - covid struck 2 days before my appointment for my first jab. It was that mild that I was convinced the lateral flow test picks up the common cold too, until the PCR came back positive. Then my husband had the same symptoms and tested positive, as-well as his brother and 3 of his friends. Then my 1 year and and 3 month old had the same symptoms. None have been jabbed yet (kids can’t anyway). All only had very mild symptoms.

Covid really isn’t that bad for the majority of people. It’s serious in some, but it’s the minority, especially if you’ve been doubled jabbed. It’s spreading like wild fire but I think it’s weaker, which is usually the case when a virus becomes more transmissible. Please don’t worry.
@misssunshine4040 oh god that's awful, how typical as well that your first jab was rescheduled.. I really hope you begin feeling better soon. It's good to hear the worst seems to be over for you now. Sending love and well wishes. X
Thanks so much, just saw all that typos in that post sorry!
I hope you feel a bit more reassurance
@WildSwimming101 sorry to hear that you suffer with anxiety, too! Mine isn't specifically health related, actually just general but I've found myself struggling more since covid.
I am really looking forward to grabbing my weightloss with both hands and controlling it - it gives me something to focus on!
I love swimming so would really like to get into that again, I think it's just the fear of crowded places that makes me nervous too!
Have you thought about outdoor swimming grasshopping?
I have yet to cross the weight loss bridge but I have heard there are supportive outdoor swimming groups around?

I know what you mean, my anxiety and panic attacks are awful, I can’t bring myself to go anywhere indoors except work once a week, been invited to pubs etc and I freak out before and then don’t go, I am double jabbed and not CEV. my fear is not catching Covid as such but passing it onto someone without knowing, am awaiting CBT, meds aren’t doing much

YarnOver · 01/08/2021 10:54

I don't have anxiety, although, I have had it when pregnant - I had shocking perinatal anxiety and depression, so whilst I am usually the least anxious person around, I have experienced it very severely for a brief period of time and so I do empathise with your situation.

I'm CEV with multiple serious and complex illnesses, never shielded because I just didn't want to, I've worked throughout in an extremely risky job and I've had covid and it was like a mild cold. My very healthy not CEV DH had it worse than me (but still just like a cold!). I'm not vaccinated at all due to severe allergies and my Drs telling me I can't be. So ... I mean getting covid isn't a death sentence even if you're extremely vulnerable.
But I also know anxiety doesn't speak rationally so probably none of that helped!!

However - you say you're medicated for your anxiety - the way you're talking about how you're feeling - is the medication working well do you think? Could seeing the GP help at all - perhaps they could up or change your meds as a stop gap between now and seeing a therapist, as there is such a wait? It would be a shame not to explore this with your GP as you deserve not to feel the way you do. I have severe mental health issues as well (but not anxiety or depression) and my meds need to be changed or adjusted every 3 months or so, so it might be worth looking into if what you're taking is currently the most effective option.

Also could you explore the possibility of private therapy? A lot of services offer means tested payment, so you'd pay on a sliding scale according to your families earnings, so it could be more affordable than people realise, if that's not something you've already looked into

I'm sorry if neither of those ideas are feasible, I just thought I'd suggest them though as I know it's not nice at all to feel the way you do, and as everything is opening up more, it would be good to explore all possible avenues of help you could receive.

@grasshopping

Are you feeling a bit better now that cases are falling again. Did you manage to get any help?

Spaceflower · 01/08/2021 18:06

Hi, thank you for your response, my doc is reviewing me every couple of weeks and I think a meds change is on the cards, has t helped that menopause has hit at the same time, I was having therapy but they have said I need higher intensity, hopefully with all the help I will overcome this soon
