And I am scared in my garden as they pop out to chat to people that come to see them. Tell me I am a paranoid loon and I won’t get it on the breeze

You’re a paranoid loon ! Come on
Imnothereforthedrama · 18/07/2021 14:37

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

I read it was 40% more transmissible outdoors than some variants so I think I’d avoid being out at the same time if the neighbours weren’t that far away.
Oh you read that did you ok ,
CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/07/2021 14:40

@HoliHormonalTigerlilly

My son had it. None of the rest of us had it.
Same, my DC was the only one out of 4 of us who caught it, other DC was not vaccinated. It’s also true of other friends who had it, only one in the household. We were sharing kitchen, bathroom etc no one wore masks.
MegCleary · 18/07/2021 14:42

Thanks for all the nice words dd is out of the paddling pool and we are inside. I will go out later but just so worried that bad luck or something and we won’t get home. I went to to the shopping at high speed this am double masked.

If it helps we are in sane situation and I am perfectly ok with it

Catchthepigeons · 18/07/2021 14:58

@ineedaholidaynow yes you're right I remember too. There was a lady who had stood where someone else had been, the second person had covid, and she caught it. They caught it on cctv. The cases are so low they're tracing every one

PeonyTime · 18/07/2021 15:13

Why do you think you wont be able to get home?

FWIW, our neighbours have covid on both sides of them. So far, none of the 6 people sharing houses with covidy children have caught it, and neither have the occupants of the house between us.
I've been holding DS (12) as he cries with pain, and sleeping next to him when he's bad overnight. So far, my single jab has prevented me catching it.

MegCleary · 18/07/2021 15:15

@PeonyTime because one DD has PCR test before we go. I am planning to to lateral flows before we go if we have COVID I’m not bringing it to my elderly parents.

I walked past a neighbouring house on my street the other day. The girl that lived there was sitting on her doorstep and her friends had brought her some shopping.

But she was coughing and coughing and coughing like I've never seen.

I did make me wonder how far the droplets could blow.

Helpful.
megletthesecond · 18/07/2021 15:51

It will not travel on the breeze. (And I'm a double masking, "freedom day" is insane, non risk taker)

PeonyTime · 18/07/2021 17:33

Ah, I see. I thought you were worried about getting from the garden into the house! Sorry, I'd missed the line about going to visit your parents.

IndigoC · 18/07/2021 17:55

I don’t think you’re a loon. Delta has a 1000 times higher viral load and apparently the cleaved structure of Delta means it may take less virus particles to infect. There have been reported instances in Australia of fleeting contact in a high ceiling shopping mall causing infection. It’s extremely unlikely but not 100% impossible IMO.

Delta is a game changer.

PandemicAtTheDisco · 18/07/2021 18:00

SARS-CoV-2 spreads via respiratory droplets, which are tiny drops of liquid that enter the air when a person coughs, sneezes, or talks. A May 2020 study found that loudly talking can emit thousands of these droplets into the air, remaining airborne for around 8–14 minutes in a confined space.

userperuser · 18/07/2021 18:08

My DD has literally just shared a bed with someone with delta and not caught it (just out of isolation) she’s not jabbed.

PandemicAtTheDisco · 18/07/2021 18:13

In the open air then the respiratory droplets are dispersed a lot quicker so are at such low concentration that they are harmless. Your body deals easily with them.

Unsure33 · 18/07/2021 18:37

Just don’t speak to them face to face over the fence .

igelkott2021 · 18/07/2021 19:05

@MegCleary

My rational mind knows it’s ok. It’s the fear of something happening and I can’t go home.
I can understand that. Just tell them you are going away at the weekend and so you'll avoid them, even outside having a chat over the fence. Nothing personal but you can't take the tiniest risk over the next few days. I wouldn't be offended if you said that to me.
CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/07/2021 20:40

A few people have pointed out delta variant is more transmissable. The situation I was referring to was almost certainly delta (hot spot area, symptoms consistent, almost 99% of cases here are now delta) and very recent. No one else in the household caught it, and that was true of others I knew who had a DC with it at the same time, despite all isolating together and it rained the whole time so we were all indoors. Even unvaccinated siblings didn't get it despite sharing a bathroom, kitchen, no masks etc. Other than cleaning the bathroom more regularly we didn't do anything different. I think it's rather paranoid to imagine you'll catch it in the garden.

Every individual will have a different viral load.
