Is isolating legally enforceable?

In Scotland specifically? Googling tells me that if it is via the app then no but if contacted directly by T&T then it is? That might just be for England though.

Also how are you supposed to know who the person is who has contracted the virus as it doesn't say..?

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 18/07/2021 10:36

Can only answer for England sorry but that is my understanding, when I was called by t&t they made it clear isolating was a legal requirement. And you're not meant to know who has covid, that is the point.

puppeteer · 18/07/2021 20:27

But you have to answer the calls in order to be told.

Don’t answer the calls.

Apparently it’s an 0300 number.

Rhinothunder · 18/07/2021 20:29

Delete the app! Why has anyone still got it!?

You can be contacted to isolate in other ways.. not just the app...
angelopal · 18/07/2021 20:34

It is test and protect in Scotland. We got a text rather than a call for DD to say she had come into contact with a positive case. It doesn't tell you who or where the contact happened. However it gives you end date for the isolation. Therefore I was able to work it out by going back 10 days from the end date.

They try to contact you 10 times, if no response it’s referred to your local authority to get in touch. Much easier to just answer the phone and do what is asked of you.
Rhinothunder · 18/07/2021 20:35

Only if you're checking in everywhere . Just use a pseudo ID / don't scan in

If someone's given your name as a contact after they've tested positive..
jerometheturnipking · 18/07/2021 20:39

Is a "pseudo ID" the fancy way of saying "fake name"?

GintyMcGinty · 18/07/2021 20:41

It is legally enforceable in Scotland and you can receive a fine for failing to do it.

GintyMcGinty · 18/07/2021 20:43

You will only know if that person tells you themselves.

Darbs76 · 18/07/2021 20:47

I was called by my local council not a 0300 number. I had a text first to say they’d be calling but maybe as I’ve got Covid in the house (son is positive, waiting on my PCR but LFT positive and have symptoms). Maybe different if it’s a non household contact. I personally think it’s the right thing to do to isolate, but I know many are ignoring it. They don’t tell you who it is who is positive so you’ll only know if they let you know. Personally I’d let anyone know if I had given their details to track and trace

Rhinothunder · 18/07/2021 20:54

Yup! Or telephone no a few digits wrong etc

It was an 0300 number here. Wonder why some are local.

And this is one of the several reasons why numbers are ramping up again.
TeddingtonTrashbag · 18/07/2021 20:59

Amazes me anyone is checking in anywhere after all the incompetence.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 18/07/2021 21:01

Does anyone else see a correlation between the advice to swerve isolation contact via phone or email and the spiralling daily case rate of the virus?

Look, no one is particularly happy after 18 months of this pandemic so far. I know I’d be pissed if I was pinged or contacted. But if we want the world to get back to normal, we have to follow the science & as shitty as it is, isolation can help prevent further transmission. And ultimately preventing transmission could save lives.

This isn’t doom mongering, it’s simple common sense.

dementedpixie · 18/07/2021 21:02

It's nothing to do with checking in. Test and Protect ask for contact details for people you have had close contact with. Its separate from the app

Not really, it isn’t common sense, nor is it rational.

At an individual level, complying with the rules is a pain with limited (if any) direct benefit. (Either to you, and most often to your circle of friends and colleagues.)

Now at a macro level, you’re more on the money. But even then it only works if you believe them when they say “do this, and it’ll be over soon”, and there things are beginning to fall down for the argument again.

For some, the calculation will tip naturally towards compliance. For many, it’s only the coercion that makes it a worthwhile undertaking. A lot of that coercion is in the social fabric (it was also in fear, but less so now), and guess what gets eroded when people start doing a Hancock, Dom Castle or Rishi/Johnson rule swerve?

Rhinothunder · 18/07/2021 22:37

18m after "two weeks to flatten the curve" anyone under 70 healthy and double vaccinated has lost too much to continue to spend weeks at a time not economically or socially interacting.

Matt hancock didn't. Fifa didn't.

Why should my business be put at risk?

Exactly. The only people who are still buying the ‘lockdown till we are ‘safe’Hmm’ are those who are retired or in the public sector with guaranteed salary and pension whose complacent lifestyle is paid for by these struggling to run businesses in all this craziness. The selfishness of those not impacted (yet) by economic meltdown is breathtaking.
tigger1001 · 19/07/2021 06:33

As far as I know it's the same here - app not a legal requirement to self isolate, but if contacted by test and protect it is.

Of course they won't tell you who it is that's tested positive - that's private medical information of that individual. Just like they won't say where, as that could lead you to identify them, although it's not usually difficult to work out where as you have an end date to to your isolation, so can work out where you were 10 days prior.

Whenthedealgoesdown · 19/07/2021 07:09

What happens if you haven't a phone or internet, DF hasn't, do they send you a letter.

Warhertisuff · 19/07/2021 07:14

Whatever the rights and wrongs of it, I can't for the life of me see how isolating for 10 days is easier than not answering the phone. That makes no sense whatsoever! Confused

amylou8 · 19/07/2021 07:16

They're fairly easy to avoid, although pretty persistent for the first few days. Ignore the phone and the door. DD was named maliciously some months ago. She knew who, and knew she hadn't had contact with them. As there's no appeal process the only option was to avoid being contacted by t&t.
