My mum tested positive Lft

wjg65ka · 18/07/2021 10:19

My mum has tested positive on an lft. She is CEV (heart disease, diabetes and asthma) she is double jabbed.

She has other disabilities that means she needs full time care and cannot leave the house without support. My sister lives with her, they've ran out of LFTS but my sister is assuming she's positive.

How do they arrange a PCR? They don't drive.

I last seen my mum on Thursday evening, she began having symptoms on Friday. Am I right in assuming we need to isolate?

Sorry for the questions that I'm sure you're all sick of. The rules around isolation are changing, I want to be sure I'm doing the right thing. I'm 35 weeks pregnant, with really bad health anxiety so I'm terrified

Fingers crossed for all of you.

AvaCallanach · 19/07/2021 11:44

@AbsolutelyPatsy

that is such a faint line, i wouldnt call that positive
You'd be wrong. This was mine, confirmed positive by PCR.
My mum tested positive Lft
HSHorror · 19/07/2021 12:48

Ops was definitely positive.

Im glad he came home.
Could well be you gave it to your mum but you are asymptomatic.

User5827372728 · 19/07/2021 12:51

Blimey- how did his work react?

I hope you all feel better ASAP

HSHorror · 19/07/2021 12:53

Actually looking at it you are probably too close between your visit to have given it to her.
Sounds like she has carers in the house.
This is an instance where the lft has been helpful. As even if you had gone for a pcr as a contact (and actually your mum too) it would have been +24h for her result and probably longer as booking it too and then the same for you testing and getting results.
Such a pity they dont pick up 100% of cases

Abraxan · 19/07/2021 13:27

@AbsolutelyPatsy

Why on earth wouldn't you call it positive, when they quite clearly is a line showing?

All of the information booklets which come with LFTs, plus all the information online, clearly state that ANY line, no matter how faint, should be treated as positive and confirmed using a PCR..

How have we got to over a year in and people still don't get it?!

givemushypeasachance · 19/07/2021 13:30

Some PCRs are taking ages at the minute - I know a Friday afternoon one that only came back this morning, 65 hours! And we're still waiting on a Saturday morning first thing one. So it may take quite a while to get the confirmation, hope you're all feeling not too bad with it.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 19/07/2021 13:33

i dont think lft's have been around for a year?

Quarantino · 19/07/2021 13:33

You bet your arse that if that was a test to win a million quid the same people would be arguing that of course it's positive Grin

Hope you're ok op, you certainly sound like you could do without this but you're doing the right thing by testing and isolating.

And if you go over to the trying to conceive you will see pictures galore of no line at all with multiple posters saying 'I see a line - congratulations' GrinGrin

Abraxan · 19/07/2021 13:47

@AbsolutelyPatsy

Okay - many months then.

But still well long enough to know that any line, even a faint one, is to be treated as positive and therefore needs confirming with PCR, and to isolate in the meantime.

Treat them like a pregnancy test - any faint line is treated as positive.

It's really that simple.

Lazypuppy · 19/07/2021 13:51

I can't believe you called his work?!

Yes he should be isolating but he's an adult that can make his own decisions. You are letting your health anxiety cloud your judgement.

HSHorror · 19/07/2021 13:54

No shes letting the law and risk of fines 'cloud her judgement'

RainBow725 · 19/07/2021 13:57

I had a line like that yesterday. Followed by a completely negative one. Then a negative PCR - results took about 16 hours. OP - hopefully you won't have to wait long for confirmation either way.

wjg65ka · 19/07/2021 14:16

@Lazypuppy would you be comfortable with you/your family working with someone who knew they'd been in close contact with covid positive people but chose to go to work anyway.

I did the right thing, if he doesn't like it then he knows where the door is. We have clinically vulnerable parents, he should know better. I didn't ring and demand he comes home, I explained I'd had a positive lft.
@onlyreadingneverposting8 so sorry your household got covid but I'm glad your CEV DC symptoms were no worse than everyone's, I'm hoping my mums get no worse than they are now. She has a headache, sore throat, bad chest and aches. She also has cramps and is struggling to eat because of the upset tummy Sad

So far I've got no symptoms but I am aware they will hit at some point, so nervous for them.
Please try not to be too nervous about getting symptoms. My friend has Covid and so do 2 of her children. Her other child and her husband are both negative atm. Only her 14Yo has had any symptoms, really high temp and lethargic. Neither her on her other child has any symptoms

Datsandcogs · 19/07/2021 17:21

If she’s double jabbed that will reduce the likelihood of becoming seriously ill. Try and stay calm as worrying won’t help. IF she is positive and you had close contact then you will need to isolate too.

Kakey1294129 · 19/07/2021 18:02

Postal pcrs!

and yes unfortunately you have to isolate too. Because you seen your mhm within the 48 hours before she started showing symptoms!

Did your dh see your mum too? If it was only you that seen her your husband does not have to isolate unless you have symptoms too!

wjg65ka · 19/07/2021 18:19

@Datsandcogs she's double jabbed thankfully!! She's quite unwell at the moment but she's not needing hospital treatment thankfully, she's just feeling utterly rubbish.

I've had my PCR today just waiting for results and im isolating

@Kakey1294129 yep DH seen her too, he's now agreed to isolate

Genuinely wouldn't bother me. Just because he is a close contact doesn't mean he'll be positive. Few more weeks and if you're double jabbed and don't have symptoms you won't have to isolate anyway.

If my partner called my work and treated me like a child like that, that would be the end of the relationship.

wjg65ka · 19/07/2021 23:16

There's always one...

I am with lazy puppy on this. Shocking behaviour from you. Are you wanting him to lose his job?

You don't legally have to SI yourself after a positive Lft. If you look the guidance only says should, not must.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 19/07/2021 23:19

Lazypuppy, yes 16th August rules change.

wjg65ka · 19/07/2021 23:19

@Tryingtryingandtrying he'd been in contact with three people with positive LFTs, two of which have since been confirmed as positive with PCRs.
