We’ve tested positive. How bad is this going to get?

DH & I have both tested positive.

We’re both feeling pretty rubbish.

I’ve had a temperature and my chest feels heavy and tight. DH has felt breathless too.
We have an oxometer and it’s been normal so far.

We’re both fully vaccinated and wondering how likely it is that things could get worse.
We already feel awful and we’re both quite anxious.

No one can tell you ready but chances are you’ll be fine. Feel rubbish but be fine.

Sounds like your anxiety might be playing up the breathlessness.

Notamillenial · 18/07/2021 01:04

Me and DH had it a few weeks ago, along with 3 children.

For us it didn't get worse, we had a few days of feeling rubbish - temp, cough, Dh had a tight chest. We lost our taste and smell around day 3 and started to feel better gradually then. Taste and smell came back after about a week. Lingering sinus issues with them feeling blocked but nothing major. Kids had zero symptoms.

Hope you feel better soon Daffodil

Hi OP, sorry to hear this. I’ve not had coronavirus (that I’m aware of!) but you sound really worried so didn’t want to ignore your post.

Anecdotally, most people who are getting the virus who have also been double vaccinated seem to get through it ok. A friend was telling me recently that her neighbour tested positive after 2 x vaccines and they felt pretty lousy too, but nothing serious. Enough to keep them in bed though, so pretty miserable.

Just think, there are many virus’s that make us feel pretty awful - enough to stay in bed. So try and just see it as any other virus - stay hydrated and eat nutritious foods if you feel like eating. Not sure what the current guidance is re lying on your tummy but that certainly seemed to be helpful to others in the past.

Hope you feel better really soon 💐

I would say lots of self care would help. Take paracetamol regularly, drink plenty of water and keep eating, even if you don't feel like having much. I would also book an online shop and put a few treats in your basket.
Is there anyone else living at home with you.
I hope you feel better soon.

Indigopearl · 18/07/2021 05:58

When I had it in December the worst part was the anxiety over what would happen. As it turned out my DH and I made a full recovery in 10 days. Take your vitamin D and eat as healthily as you can to give your immune system a boost. I also found green tea really helped.

onefootdown · 18/07/2021 08:06

Thanks everyone.

No one else at home with us, just me and DH.

Have booked an online shop for today and got plenty of fruit and vegetables.

I can’t seem to shift this temperature.

DH has been vomiting overnight and his cough sounds awful.

I didn’t expect either of us to feel this ill after having had our vaccinations.
Hate to think how bad we would’ve felt without them!! Confused

Had Covid last year and felt pretty awful for 5 days - slept through most of it though. The thing about Covid is the number of body systems/organs it affects, so you really can feel comprehensively crap.

I would say rest, drink fluids and take over the counter drugs, message other people for shopping help if needed and call 111 if things seem to be deteriorating. But they probably won't.

Chosennone · 18/07/2021 08:12

Just finishing isolation here. Both double jabbed. Very mild for me. DH had 48 hours feeling pretty ropey but gradually got better each day and felt fine by day 10. He's mid 50s and an ex heavy smoker.

OliveTree75 · 18/07/2021 08:15

Quite a few double vaccinated people at work have just had it. They felt quite rough but were back to work after their isolation ended. My friend who is T1 diabetic and double jabbed tested positive on tuesday. She felt rubbish for 2 days and now said it feels like the tail end of a cold.

Splendo · 18/07/2021 08:20

DH and I are single-vaxxed but both felt pretty dreadful for the first 4-5 days - high temperature, cough, full body aches, no sense of smell or taste, extreme fatigue, headache, sneezing. Those symptoms gradually abated and by day 10 we were both pretty much back to normal apart from a bit of residual fatigue, and an intermittent headache.
Drink plenty, take paracetamol when needed, and get loads of rest.

Justilou1 · 18/07/2021 08:22

You can take Ibuprofen and paracetamol at the same time (paying extra attention to the different times required for them to wear off…)

ilovemykids5 · 18/07/2021 15:36

I'm on day 8 and the only thing that is bothering me is the tight chest and breathlessness. Don't think this weather is helping much either. Only other symptom is no smell but that's not a problem

Porcupineintherough · 18/07/2021 16:28

This virus can make you feel so, so terrible even if it doesnt make you dangerously ill (ie just because you feel awful doesnt mean you will deteriorate to the point of hospitalization.

I suggest you plan on 10 -14 days of feeling like shit (then if less than that, bonus).

Keep hydrated, watch your o2 levels, rest, take paracetamol/ibruphrophen for pain/fever, rest some more.

Zula4 · 21/07/2021 21:16

Hope your feeling better now

Summersdreaming · 21/07/2021 21:25

Me and dp are on day 8, both WFH since last Monday and haven't needed a sick day/been in bed, despite quite a few symptoms. Between us we've been ill but not terribly ill.

JellyBabiesFan · 21/07/2021 21:51

There are more factors than just the vaccination status that determine how ill you will get. General health, weight, genetics, lifestyle and nutrition are all factors.
