AZ vaccine - should we be revaccinated?

There have been a number of reports of AZ vaccine not being effective as the other vaccines - for example it doesn't provoke a good response in those with immunity issues and now it seems it's not at all effective against the Beta variant whereas Pfizer was highly effective.
I received AZ as I am sure did a large number of elderly and or CV people. If this population is completely unprotected against a variant - surely revaccination with an effective vaccine is required?

It never made sense to me that we gave AZ to our most vulnerable. I do hope they boost soon, plenty of options with surplus mRNAs, J&J, and Novavax soon (I hope).

There’s so little evidence on the safety of mixing vaccines that it’s rolling the dice all over again for those people. It’s really unfair.

BIWI · 17/07/2021 14:57

I thought there was good data from trials about mixing? I'm sure I read a piece about AZ people being given Pfizer as a booster (and vice versa). I'll see if I can find it.

BIWI · 17/07/2021 14:58

Yes! I didn't imagine it. Here it is:

from June this year

Lemonmelonsun · 17/07/2021 15:08

Well apparently pzifer is disaaponting agaisnt delta?

Can we win??

Sometimesonly · 17/07/2021 15:12

Are people being given two different doses of the vaccine e.g. AZ and Pfizer in the UK? They are in Italy.

LucyLocketsPocket · 17/07/2021 18:15

99% of all cases in this country are Delta. And it's effective against that so is still a really good vaccine.

Mindymomo · 17/07/2021 19:11

I thought that by now we would have 6 or 7 vaccines available, but despite trials going on for the others, nothing has been decided. I expect unless another vaccine gets approval, AZ will be given as a booster from September to over 50’s.

I'm not really sure why you've posted that link?

The one I posted directly before you was based on an actual study.

Lemons1571 · 17/07/2021 20:48

There is an updated AZ vaccine to cover the beta variant. It’s currently in trials, and hopefully will be approved as a booster come the autumn.

No they are not.
tickertyboo · 17/07/2021 21:00

If you ask your GP you can get different doses.

userperuser · 17/07/2021 21:29

BIWI

As a contribution? Or is that not allowed? The article discusses studies if you read it.

It’s MN not bloody Oxford University.

BIWI · 17/07/2021 21:52

But it should be about data. Not opinions.

userperuser · 17/07/2021 22:17

I’d stop listening to most of SAGE then….

RedToothBrush · 17/07/2021 22:52

My friend who works for AZ told me yesterday that they had put out a press release for an updated new version of the vaccine.

I've not seen anything anywhere about it.

Point being that it is now likely to not simply be a 3rd dose of the same thing but probably a new version.

Friend said AZ were claiming it had less side effects too.
