Yes, apologies in advance..it's another school bashing thread.

DD14 went back to school on Tuesday after having to isolate for 10 days due to a case in her year group (she'd had no contact with the positive case)

Yesterday morning, her year group were dismissed again after 3 days!!!! to isolate for a further 10 days due to another positive case.

AIBU to think the school have royally fucked up here by insisting the year group return to school knowing full well covid is ripping through schools at the moment?

I'm so, so angry at the school for making them go back and gutted for my DD, who now has to spend yet another 10 days in isolation.

It is really individual schools faults though? They are just operating under guidelines from above.

I’m fairly certain staff are just as annoyed and frustrated as you are.

Comedycook · 17/07/2021 11:58

I can see why you're angry with the situation but I can't see how it's the school's fault?

user1471427614 · 17/07/2021 11:58

What do you expect them to do, this is the world we are living in at the moment. Annoying but there hands are tied

Stevenage689 · 17/07/2021 11:59

YABU. The school has to have the students in unless they are isolating. They aren't able to unilaterally decide to shut the school. Last time schools tries to do so, just before Christmas, the government threatened legal action.

cansu · 17/07/2021 11:59

How many parents would have been fuming if the school hadn't allowed them back? Answer: Lots with many sending emails to the head complaining that their child had missed out on the end of term. Schools are following the PHE guidance, batshit as it is and are getting the flack from everyone for it. It really isn't the school's fault for following the government guidance. You need to focus your anger on the govment if you think the rules are shit.

Theworldisfullofgs · 17/07/2021 12:00

It's not the school's fault. They have to follow the rules as set out. I think you need direct your blame elsewhere. How about the government?

cansu · 17/07/2021 12:00

I would recommend you get hold of some LFTs and test her daily.

Smartiepants79 · 17/07/2021 12:01

How is this schools fault? What would rather they did? Just close for the rest of the term? This is not in their control?
The guidance comes from government and public health England.
They have followed what they’ve been told to do! It’s not their choice!!

grapewine · 17/07/2021 12:02

Not the school's fault.

PurpleBirch · 17/07/2021 12:02

YABVU I think you know that deep down.
It’s a horrible, frustrating time as parents of school aged children but none of this is the school’s fault.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/07/2021 12:02

I think it's a bit mad that they cant filter out those who are close contacts. Even if they send them home but then say "x y and a are close contacts, they need to SI"

thereisnophalange · 17/07/2021 12:04

I'm sorry but the school have had a shocking number of positive cases over the last 3 weeks.
They closed for a week last week because of staff shortages and half the school out isolating.
All lessons were done on teams.
As soon as they summon the kids back in, they're sent home again!

Yes, I'm angry with the government because they out school in an impossible situation but if the school are able to close for a week, why not 2 and lower the risk of any further transmission??

OP posts:
KibeththeWalker · 17/07/2021 12:04

You are being ridiculous blaming the school.

They aren't allowed to just choose to close for an extra week.
Theworldisfullofgs · 17/07/2021 12:07

Schools are in an invidious position.

Twoforthree · 17/07/2021 12:10

It could be worse. You could have been going on holiday next week. That’s the position many are finding themselves in.

SprayedWithDettol · 17/07/2021 12:11

How is it the school’s fault that a highly contagious virus is spreading?

Topseyt · 17/07/2021 12:11

Not school's fault as they are operating under the guidance of the government (DfE) and PHE.

This is the kind of ridiculousness we are currently living under, and not just in schools. In universities and businesses too. It has to end.

User5827372728 · 17/07/2021 12:12

Your anger is being directed totally to the wrong place!

Seriously, use your own brain and keep her home rather than blame a struggling school.

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/07/2021 12:13

Ours has closed early and gone online for the final week so they can do that as an option.

Tillyscoutsmum · 17/07/2021 12:15

A school can't just decide to close for another week 🙄 They have to follow guidelines in place.

It's frustrating for everyone but you're being ridiculous blaming the school! It's not their fault there have been a large number of cases. Cases are rising everywhere. Especially in schools

CremeEggThief · 17/07/2021 12:16

Why didn't you just keep her off if you had reservations? You would have known you were lying, they would have known you were lying, but who the fuck would have cared at this stage of the year?

crazycatgal · 17/07/2021 12:16

The school follow guidance from Public Health England. They will decide if the school can close and for how long.

QuillBill · 17/07/2021 12:19

We just had a staff briefing this week on how to handle parent’s complaints about the isolating situation. It’s flabbergasting how many parents think that the headteacher is just pulling these rules out of her arse.

We don’t want our class at home. Never have I ever worked so hard as when my class was isolating. It was so full on.

Schools have to do what PHE tell them, it is not their choice. You're being ridiculous, none of us are enjoying this situation or doing any of it on purpose 🙄
