Are you going back to the office next week?

Our office of around 1500 people have suspended reopening next week due to the anticipated increase in infection rates. Also we were told that we need to download the NHS app but now they are concerned that it will lead to the whole office having to isolate in a similar way that we have seen in schools in the UK.

Unless modifications are made to the NHS app I don’t see how it will be possible for people to return to work without multiple periods of isolation and massive disruption.

@TheTurn0fTheScrew

I work for the NHS in an odd role that's part office based, part clinical. Office staff (my team included) have all been on a rota to WFH at least part of the week, and we were advised on Friday that no immediate changes will be made.
I wonder if we work for the same employer (ambulance trust) We had the same email notifying us that although the country is opening up on 19th July, we should continue to work from home if we are able, wear masks and take the same precautions as we are doing.
Jenasaurus · 17/07/2021 18:47

Like a PP my employer has stated that WFH will be permanent with the option to work in the office if you cant manage at home, we will have 30 hot desks which staff can book in advance in an office that used to have 200 a floor. (TBF the remaining space has been used for training 111 callers) also a bit like space at home thats discovered, once available its quickly used and you cant ever go back to how it was before. :)

MaintainingPositivity · 17/07/2021 18:50

Half our office, including me have been in the office the whole time on a rota basis. The other half WFH, on Monday everyone is back in on a rota basis.

It's going to be interesting as those of us who've been in, no real difference the WFHomers are kicking off big time.

I'm keeping out of it, but I can see their point as they've managed this far and no real issues - I plan to get my mortgage paid off in the next few years then I'm outta there, so letting the fireworks go over my head!

Radio4ordie · 17/07/2021 18:51

We’ve been back since April for most people (anyone more vulnerable or more anxious who wants to stay home has been universally allowed) . It’s been fine but we have lots of space so aren’t crammed in. Also if people are in any way unwell or kids are home from burst bubbles they are fine to wfh.

whatswithtodaytoday · 17/07/2021 18:58

Still wfh here. Our office is open and you can go in if you want, but very few people are. I'm definitely more productive without a commute and am expecting to go back to a hybrid model next spring (providing things are better then). I very much doubt I'll be in the office before then.

thedevilinablackdress · 17/07/2021 19:04

Are you working during the time you would have been commuting?
I wonder if this is why many employers are keen on WFH, all the free extra work they're getting.

notacooldad · 17/07/2021 19:05

Never been away!

plixy · 17/07/2021 19:06

I went back a few weeks ago as my boss said he'd had enough. The boss who refuses to have the vaccine because he doesn't believe in it, and can't wait to start travelling around the world again.

4PawsGood · 17/07/2021 19:11

Scotland, so is that of interest? Anyway, NHS office based and been told we won’t be back till at least September.

Houserenoqueen · 17/07/2021 19:16

Being forces back from early Sept and expected to do 2 home tests a week for the pleasure. Tube + office of 1500 people means I am dreading the return.

Milliways · 17/07/2021 19:21

NHS so Like others been in throughout, all desks moved so a clear 2m apart, windows open, masks on if moving around, twice weekly LFTs and hand sanitizer on way in and desks cleaned before and after use.

Did to this I never have the app on at work as I am never in direct contact with patients, and those that are wear PPE.

ceeveebee · 17/07/2021 19:22

We’ve been open throughout on a voluntary basis and that will continue until later in the year, after which we should all be going back in 2-3 days per week.

We are strongly encouraging mask wearing and LFT tests but not mandating it
I’m not planning to go until the self isolation rules change!

megletthesecond · 17/07/2021 19:24

No, we're not.
We've been doing one day a week each for a couple of months and are sticking at that for now.

NannyAndJohn · 17/07/2021 19:25

We've gone to permanent WFH, thank goodness.

Never stepping foot in the office again.

OddBoots · 17/07/2021 19:26

Facebook reminded me the other day that it is now a year since I returned full time with one other colleague. Thankfully they are bringing more people back now (on a rota) though so she and I can actually WFH sometimes - there is some moaning though and they don't seem to appreciate that someone else has been doing the stuff that has to happen on site while they stayed away.

TheKeatingFive · 17/07/2021 19:34

Why go anywhere, huh nanny?

1starwars2 · 17/07/2021 19:37

I work for a business that largely embraced wfh pre covid.
If I had an office to go back to, I would be very concerned. Its really not clear how safe it is at the moment, and too early to tell. Hopefully many offices will think again.

actiongirl1978 · 17/07/2021 19:43

DH was going back September but this has been pushed back to Xmas.

I can't wait for him to go back, there's a coffee maker in his desk drawer we could do with at home. He hasnt been allowed on the premises sincr last March.

knittingaddict · 17/07/2021 19:43

My husband works in an office.

The office closed last March two weeks before the lockdown due to a case of covid and won't be back for some time. When they go back it will be hybrid working.

Whiskycav · 17/07/2021 19:43

Why not?

Some people are happy like that. Or they can go places when they aren't working.

Not sure how it makes a difference to you.

nancy75 · 17/07/2021 19:49

My office is, I would guess very different to most of yours as it’s a tiny business & only me and the boss in the office. We do have a lot of customers that pop in for a chat!
I was due to go back in May but hurt my back so had a few weeks more at home, with rising cases we’ve decided to wait until September & then decide.
I’m keen to go back because I find it hard to switch off at home (I’ve being doing emails today!) but I’m lucky I can walk to work so don’t have to worry about getting in a bus or train

TheKeatingFive · 17/07/2021 20:08

Oh nanny can hide under the bed as much as she likes of that’s what she wants. I totally agree.

However her numerous posts on the topic on here would suggest that isn’t enough for her and she’d like to limit what everyone else does too.

AnnaSW1 · 17/07/2021 20:15

Nope Smile

Finknottlesnewt · 17/07/2021 21:21

Nope - civil service... never going back.. have got rid of our office !
