Self isolating at schools

If your DC have had to self isolate due to a case in their bubble at school, how have you found the communication and approach from their school? We were emailed this morning and told not to come in (don't even get me started on the school's inability to use text messages or WhatsApp - because obviously we're all checking our emails). Then we got an email. Not a single word of empathy or understanding that the children (reception) might be upset at not getting a chance to say goodbye to their teachers and friends. They also haven't included any google video sessions for today and there's just one short one for the whole class tomorrow. That's it.

Is it just me who thinks this is awful? Would it kill them to acknowledge that this is a difficult time?

Don't you think your username is a bit melodramatic OP? And a bit rude too really. You might have much worse examples of rudeness from the school but the ones you have shown is in this thread are not problematic.

I do think schools in general operate in very dated ways, I mean actual paper newsletters, etc?

But that wasn't your complaint - your complaint was that you wanted the school to hold all your hands about how hard this is for parents and kids, when it's probably the most stressful time in their entire career.

Handholding really isn't the job of the school.

With dd2 I got a text and a letter, then they switched over to online learning. With dd1 it was just a letter she brought home because she's sixth form.

With over 300 pupils per year and sometimes more than one positive case coming in a day I don't think I can expect more than that.

Thing I am currently trying to find out is whether a positive LFT means contacts must isolate, or whether it’s only positive PCRs that trigger self isolation for contacts?

I'm currently isolating as a parent chose to send their child to school whilst awaiting the result of their own pcr test. They got a positive reult and only the next day decided to keep their child off school. Child is now positive and my headteacher had to notify staff and parents of this last weekend. She got a load of abuse for spoiling people's weekend plans. Not a word of sympathy towards her for having to spend her weekend notifying parents, answering their questions and supporting her staff who then had to reassess all their plans and lessons for the week so they could go onto our online portal. Anyone would have thought she was the one who'd sent their child to school rather than following guidance.
We also had to close a bubble a couple of weeks ago. In that case, the child had shown symptoms on a Friday after school, parent got pcr but didn't get result until 8 am on the Monday. They told us immediately but of course, by then, many of the children were already on their way to school. HT took a load of abuse for the timing of that as well.
Yes, schools do know it us hard for parents, but it is hard for them too.

But schools are covid safe. Boris said so. Can't possibly transmit in a school. So staff have been totally safe since March and didn't need a priority vaccine. Because schools are safe . We tried to say this would happen if you took away masks 🤷‍♀️
