Worried I haven’t been vaccinated properly

I’m obese sadly. BMI over 50 and fat arms. Working on it but it’s slow progress. I have had my 2 doses of Pfizer but I have recently read that the NHS guidance is to use longer needles for obese people otherwise enough vaccine doesn’t go into the muscle. The vaccinator didn’t seem to make any sort of special trip to get a longer needle so now I’m worried. Do the vaccinators know that this is the guidance? Should I ring up the hub and find out? It was done at a doctors which was a hub so if I ring them up would they know?

You could call them to discuss.

I'm a vaccinator, I always have a couple of long needles in my tray as well as the regular ones then just use the appropriate one when I've seen who I'm vaccinating, no special trip needed and I would try to be as discrete as possible (don't want anyone freaking out because I've chosen a longer needle for them).

@greensnail You rock Smile

I don't think that many vaccinators would highlight that they have chosen a longer needle due to someone's size. It would be quite rude. I would call the center if you are worried though.

That’s reassuring, thank you

@CamillaEsther thanks, you've made my afternoon Smile

At the vaccination centre I work at we do exactly as greensnail has described. We have larger needle syringes drawn up and the vaccinator would just pick up one of these, discreetly.

I didn't know that sort of stuff happened. As someone with a needle phobia though, the very thought of it has made me cringe myself inside out!

I am curious as to who you would handle someone who is heavily scarred (am talking fat keloids here).
