Isolation rules

My son has got the text this morning regarding his class and now are isolating. Not been updated on how long for. Do the rules change on Monday for children and bubbles. Can someone sit in my garden or lounge if he is out of the way. Sorry if these questions are bit dumb but we have been lucky so far and I knew it was just matter of time.Thanks.

From what I can see you’re not allowed visitors in your house, nothing about gardens though.

I don’t think the rule change will change anything. Being in a classroom could still be close contact. I don’t really understand the rule change on Monday regarding self isolating. I assumed nothing actually changed until August?

paul2louise · 15/07/2021 11:49

Yes I don't really understand the rules from Monday. Will have to wait to get official email from school

No isolating rules are changing until 16th August.
No you can’t have someone sit in your living room whilst he’s isolating.

Overthebow · 15/07/2021 12:05

I’m not sure about gardens but if he stays inside I can’t see the harm of having people sit outside.

Do the rules change on Monday for children and bubbles

The change from Monday is that rather than using bubbles close contacts will have to be identified and notified to test and track who will be the ones then informing to isolate rather than the school doing it. I'm wondering if technically from Monday my daughter will no longer need to self isolate, I know some schools are reading it that way but ours hasn't.

INeedNewShoes · 15/07/2021 12:11

Isolating means not having people over. I suppose you could have someone in your garden if you really can be sure they'll be kept a great distance from your DC but that can be difficult. More hassle than it's worth in my view.

We're on our last day of isolation and have done it properly so that I haven't had to worry about DD passing Covid onto anyone.

bobcatbobcat · 15/07/2021 12:16

He will still have to isolate from Monday as he's already been identified as a close contact.

On Monday the way close contacts are identified is changing but those already identified will still be required to isolate.

Yes that's what I am thinking or hoping maybe. He is part of 3 classes for a year group of 75. If it's not a child in his class or close friend that might mean he is ok. I am not that bothered about if he returns to school or not but 10 days from today he has cub camp and he is so excited. I would hate him having to miss that by 1 day.

Think this absolutely cruel to our kids, both mine at home, DS has only been a week out of Isolating and just been told he’s got to do it all over again, feel so sorry for him, just had an interview for a summer job which he will miss out on as can’t start straight away.

Apologies for my previous post, am venting, I know we need to keep the virus under control, just had enough now

Girlmama3 · 15/07/2021 13:01

@paul2louise that's ridiculous that their 'bubble' is that big. All our local schools scrapped big bubbles ages ago. It's now a case in class or bus.

I would question it with the school. They must have been in contact with public health and I'm sure they wouldn't agree.

Vent away it's soooo frustrating. So disrupting for everyone. What is free about freedom day when kids and parents are isolating all over the country 😥

All year 3 and all year 5s are now at home. I don't think there is anything we can do. I know older children at secondary are more selective over bubble size but if it's primary the whole year isolates

@paul2louise - mine are at 2 different secondaries, both are sending year groups home to isolate while they work out close contacts, DS sent home yesterday as part of year group but didn’t get email confirming close contact until today. With DD they worked out close contacts, let the kids back that aren’t and have mobile test unit in to PCR those. It’s a shambles, however both schools have had more positive cases than ever, we are South UK

paul2louise · 15/07/2021 14:46

@Fastforwardtospring we are in East mids, Nottinghamshire. I am sad that I can't see my class at school and say bye to them before holidays.
