How many businesses do you think will follow suit?
And why is the cynic in me thinking that many businesses will look at their key demographic and either take a stance on mask wearing (or not in some cases) based on how likely their clientele are to want mask-wearing to continue?

Are they really wanting to keep everyone safe or do they just want your money…

I didn't need to read anything past this:
Maybe we stop thinking about ourselves and our 10 minutes in WS and think about the staff there for 8/9 hours?
WS have quite possibly asked their shop managers what they and their staff would prefer, and the staff have quite possibly said they would prefer people to wear masks. As a consumer I am happy to respect that, and as a business owner I will continue to express a preference for people to wear a mask in my place of work.
I would like to add though (WS is the favourite shop of my book mad teenaged children) not once have we only spent 10 minutes in there, more like eleventy billion! 😉

It's certainly going to be the final nail in the coffin for book stores like this. It will certainly ensure book purchases via Amazon

Again it’s only they encourage people to wear them, Sainsbury’s like Waterstones are not saying that people who don’t want to wear face masks are banned from their stores.

It’s simple those who want to continue to wear them can and those who don’t wont have to.

Managing director James Daunt told the BBC this would be communicated by signs, but staff would not enforce this: "If you are wearing a mask and you don't want to be in the company with someone who isn't wearing a mask, we expect people will use their common sense and move away.

Oh yes? So I have to move, because someone else walks up to me? I hope people without masks will be courteous about this (but I suspect not). Otherwise, I'll just walk straight out of the shop!

I think that was the MD’s way of saying “we are not getting involved, don’t come to our staff and complain about customers not wearing masks” Which is fair enough, staff don’t deserve the grief they’ll get from both sides if they try to resolve an argument about this.

Because they are encouraging people to continue to wear masks? My hairdresser is doing the same. Public transport is likely to still require masks. I think people will cope.

I don’t think it will, it’s hardly the end of the world to have to wear a mask and it protects others. I’d avoid places that didn’t requests masks and ensure I supported those who did. The CEV and children deserve to be protected until this pandemic is over.
