Just that really.

40w this week pretty sure I'm having contractions but my toddler has a high temp runny nose and a cough. 2 negative lateral flows but took him for pcr this morning.

Ring your midwife, they'll need to take extra precautions.

Timeturnerplease · 13/07/2021 15:12

I asked this question at my last midwife appointment! Baby due on 10th August but I’ve a history of going early and it now seems a case of when rather than if my class bubble is taken out.

Answer was pretty non committal, along the lines of ‘call triage, you’ll have to go in but I’m not sure what the setup will be’.

The hospital will have a plan in place for such eventualities. I would think pre warning labour ward is advisable, but I'm sure there will have woman turning up during their isolation period in labour.

CovidCorvid · 13/07/2021 16:11

I’m sure there will have been women turn up in labour with covid never mind just isolating. Yes, warn them over the phone before going in but if you’re in labour or indeed need to be seen for any other reason then you need to go in.

This happened to my neighbour last week, her 5 year old daughter had a positive LFT and they were waiting for the PCR though the post. She told the hospital what was happening and they told her to still go in and extra PPE precautions were used. Whatever you do, please don't sit at home and worry, especially if you are having contractions. The hospital would have planned for this, I promise!

snowy0wl · 13/07/2021 16:25

Reported too. Not funny croixrousse!

LizJamIsFab · 13/07/2021 16:27

I can’t imagine it’s much different to the usual, if you are a contact. Ring or go in as you would have before. If toddler tests positive, they may have to wear more PPE (or not) but let them worry about that, you just focus on what you need.

wingingit987 · 13/07/2021 16:27

@croixrousse well your a sarcastic twat.

Don’t panic! They will have a plan in place and will keep you in one room. They’ll probably wear full ppe.

It’s highly likely your toddler will be negative as there are colds doing the rounds but you won’t get the results in time I expect.

Good luck op x

mayblossominapril · 13/07/2021 16:33

I had dd last august and they only tested you for COVID once you arrived at the hospital. It was assumed you had it until the test came back from the lab. It took at least an hour for the results to come back ( I wasn’t clock watching).
They did explain if you were positive it would be full ppe throughout labour, they took the goggles off when the negative test came back and on post natal you would be in a room on your own and have to use a separate bathroom ( no en-suites in our hospital). It really didn’t seem like a big deal and they weren’t phased by it at all.

wingingit987 · 13/07/2021 16:35

Thank you. For your replies, For those who have been through something similar were you still allowed your birthing partner with you?
Once the contractions are abit more continuous I'll call I was in yesterday and had a sweep.

Hopefully the results come back soon as I said 2 negative lateral flow tests so fingers crossed negative pcr.

Girlmama3 · 13/07/2021 16:39

I’d phone them now so they’re aware and can tell you what to expect. I would imagine your birth partner can still go in. They’d never let anyone give birth alone. They’ll probably have to wear a mask though.

I hope your toddlers ok and that your new baby arrives nice and easily x

Middleagedmidwife · 13/07/2021 16:42

Call them and explain. We all wear PPE anyway and you will be tested on admission as a rapid test. Your husband will be able to join you. We have several positive patients last week, care was exactly the same.

WoolyMammoth55 · 13/07/2021 18:50

I had DS in January and had to have a PCR test 3 days before my ELCS and another one on arrival. They were negative but I was told they are also caring for Covid positive mums, just extra PPE. I'd call them now and ask your question about birthing partner just in case, as lots of trusts seem to have different policies. You won't be the first mum to be in this situation, nor the last, sadly...

mayblossominapril · 13/07/2021 21:36

They let DP when the midwife could see I was actually in labour, before they did the Covid test. I was only 3cm but was a vbac threatening to leave if they didn’t let DP and they wanted me hooked up to the monitor

Tibtab · 13/07/2021 21:40

I had suspected Covid when I went in, I had told them in advance and they met me in the car park and I was taken the back way to the delivery suite. Had to wear a facemask and they did a PCR test when I arrived.
Ring the hospital for advice if you go into labour.

Tibtab · 13/07/2021 21:41

My DH was allowed in but he had to wear a mask the whole time (well until my negative result came through after 48 hours 😬)

swapsicles · 13/07/2021 21:41

Rapid test wouldn't have helped me, I gave birth 50 minutes after arriving 😂
