Nicola Steurgeon seems more level & cautious than Boris.. Will be interesting to see if Scotland follow Englands lead or hold back... Cases are very high there also...

Ginandfantalemon then you are exempt and don't have to wear one.

I can't wear one at the moment and it's fine. I pop on a sunflower lanyard in case of any hassle and I promise you no-one on the train or in the supermarket looks twice at me.

really? I was speaking to my brother last night and he seemed pretty clear on what the restrictions were. Is the messaging not clear?

There’s a lot of detail to exactly who can meet where, what’s allowed to open where and how long for, and so on.

I pay pretty close attention to the rules and try to follow them and hand on heart, I could not tell you without looking it up how many people from how many households are allowed to meet in a pub/house/park at the moment. (It is a different answer for all three.) I didn’t know until the announcement yesterday that restaurants were still meant to be booking in 2-hour slots!

@MaxNormal

I do have a NHS Exemption Card in my purse, I just don't have the confidence to use it. I couldn't stand the looks or if someone said something to me. I'd be mortified.

MaxNormal · 14/07/2021 11:38

@Ginandfantalemon I'm sorry, you sound really anxious about it and I understand. There's so much rhetoric around the subject.

But I promise you away from the internet keyboard warriers, no-one says anything or looks at you funny. Maybe you could try it once with a friend or partner for a bit of confidence and see how you feel? You shouldn't have to be shut away like this.

ah that's annoying. The different levels did seem confusing around Christmas. We were discussing something quite specific so I guess he must have looked it up beforehand and so knew it.

Thankyou, and was kind of hoping she would make it optional, although that seems to be causing such mixed feelings. You're right, I know, I really need to try it and see how it goes with the exemption card. My husband is starting to get quite frustrated with me. I also think that the rules could at least be a wee bit different for instance for a quiet village store, in comparison to a crowded shopping complex in the centre of Glasgow. If that makes sense.

Weirdly you might feel more comfortable in a big shopping complex as it's way more impersonal and you're more likely to see other exempt people at the same time as you.
I understand that as your exemption is anxiety-driven, it does make it harder though to just get out there unmasked as you're anxious anyway. But if you can try it once and it goes okay you might feel a bit braver.
Tbh I think the making it non-mandatory but recommended might actually stir up more bad feeling than keeping it mandatory with exceptions.

Maybe you could try a supermarket at a quiet time for starters. Sainsbury's have a clear policy of respecting the exempt so they might be a good place?

@ManNormal
Thank you, your advice makes perfect sense.
