Tested positive, I'm scared

I'll start by saying I know I should have had the vaccine, I was going to book it for next week when DP's off work because I don't drive. On Friday DP started with a cough, last night DS(13) wasn't feeling well and had a high temp. I started to feel ill in bed last night with headache, sore legs and feeling like I've no energy. Today we have all tested positive on lateral flow tests. Last night I was worried about DS but he seems fine today. But I'm feeling like there is a weight on my chest, like I can't get a full breathe, I know it might be because I'm panicking, but it's only day two I know its only going to get worse. Can anyone reassure me that they got through it.

Have you got the things that you need?

Paracetamol, an oxygen finger monitor, thermometer, food shopping slot etc?

Being prepared always helps keep me calm when I'm anxious

LIZS · 11/07/2021 20:52

Have you ordered pcr tests to confirm?

whyohyou · 11/07/2021 20:59

We've got paracetamol, no thermometer or oxygen moniter, could order them on prime. Food shopping is coming on Friday, we've enough to last until then. DS is sad to be missing his last week of school and also feeling guilty about others in his classes having to isolate.

99%+ get over it, even before vaccines. I assume you're not extremely vulnerable or you would have prioritised having the vaccine?

ChocOrange1 · 11/07/2021 21:01

You don't need an oxygen monitor or thermometer. If you want one because it will make you feel calmer, then get one, but they aren't necessary. For some people they will just make you panic more if you're temperature increases by 0.1 degrees

gamerchick · 11/07/2021 21:02

I probably would order an oxi meter anyway just to reassure you if it's panic OP. It could be, chances are you'll be ok.

whyohyou · 11/07/2021 21:03

PCR tests should come tomorrow, DP has already done one because of his cough so should have his result soon.

Pretty sure we all had it March 2020 before first lockdown.

Felt like flu, lasted a few days with no lasting effects.

There wasn't testing freely available at the time so don't know if it was Covid or not but am almost certain it was.

Unless you have underlying health issues you are all likely to be fine.

Hope you feel better soon.

@whyohyou
Oh bless you
Now isn't a time for wishing you'd had the vaccine it's a time to stay clam and focus on getting better
I hope you and your family make a
Speedy recovery

I had an awful pressure feeling in my chest, like it was being pressed down all the time and I could only sleep on my back slightly propped up. It did pass but it hung around for a good few weeks. All the best to you and your family

whyohyou · 11/07/2021 21:11

I'm not vunerable, I'm kicking myself for not having the vaccine. The slots they offered were all a few miles away so thought I'd be better waiting to get a lift rather than taking the tram which is usually busy. Thanks for the replys it's helping to calm me down. I was going to phone my mum but don't want to worry her.

How are you feeling OP?

Blue565 · 15/07/2021 13:27

I've had covid, my symptoms didn't come close to touching when I had Bronchitus in the past, or even some bad colds.

I know I'm not representative of everyone, but just throwing out there that it is mild for a lot of people (I hope this helps a bit with your anxiety)

StrangeAddiction · 15/07/2021 13:29

Try practicing deep breathing properly (I looked on YouTube Grin) to try and help fill up as much lung capacity as you can.

Wishing you and your family a speedy recovery Smile

Delatron · 15/07/2021 14:02

I’ve heard lying prone (on your tummy) can help with breathing and clearing the lungs.

I hope you feel better soon. Rest up.
