Any advice on what to do?

Hello. I started to feel ill last Sunday. Had a high temp, headache , loss of sense of taste etc. So want of for a PCR test and we isolated as advised. So by time test was delivered and posted off was Wednesday ( no access to car at present ). Also have 3 people with disabilities.

So still no results as their is a big backlog apparently in our area. My friends daughter has been waiting since Tuesday .

So anyway eldest is 15 and doing well at online classes but her school are moaning at me even though it is out of my control.

Any fast forward today my friend's son opposite is has tested positive. Her younger one is displaying symptoms .

My 11 year old is also displaying symptoms. But here is the issue . She is autistic and has very high sensory needs . As well as a range of other problems. She will 100% not allow us to test her and she is unable to do it herself . We physically can't force her ,(which we won't do anyway), as we have disabilities ourselves .

What are we supposed to do? More concerned Bout how to deal with eldest school even though there is only like 40 students out of over 150 in her year group due to isolating

Please any advice?

Everyone stays at home for ten days.

kimlo · 11/07/2021 20:34

tell the school she has symptoms, you can't test her and you will do the isolation for 10 days.

ifonly4 · 11/07/2021 20:35

Isolate, sorry has to be done

EugeniaGrace · 11/07/2021 20:36

As above ^

You do not need to test the 11 year old, but everyone self-isolates for 10 days instead.

Tell school you are still waiting your results and or their child symptomatic, so 15year old needs to stay at home

When you say school are “moaning at you”, what do you mean?

landofgiants · 11/07/2021 21:51

I agree with the other posters. You can't test her due to her disability. My ten year old is similar - I reckon if he was ill enough I might have a chance of testing him, but otherwise no way!

Age 11 and under, an adult needs to do the test. Self testing is for 12 years and older, so it doesn't matter that she can't/won't do it herself.

Any chance of just doing swabbing nose? If not isolate.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 11/07/2021 22:03

Have her swab her nose herself. I have an 11 year old on the spectrum and he swabbed his nostrils himself and we got results. The people at the test centre were perfectly fine with it. Maybe practice with lateral flows?

Hi thanks for replies.

My eldest school is moaning as we have been isolating this week due to my symptoms . I have tested but where we are have seen a surge of cases so results are taking a while.

My 11 year olds school is not so bad but under recommendation of her medical she is only doing 1.5 hours a day .

She 100% won't let is test her at all. Even brushing her teeth etc is a complete and utter trial . She just won't tolerate it either nose or throat.

I may contact my GP in the morning to explain so it is on record .

We have tried to practise with the lateral flow tests before and she had so many meltdowns and ended up hurting herself . There is honestly no reasoning with her . We are under padeatric team, bladder and bowel team, genetics etc and every test she has had , she has had to be heavily sedated/put to sleep for .

You u’ve Done everything right. Maybe you’re u should point this out to school. Do they want to invite (more) potential COVID in the door?
