We have a government that is pursuing a herd immunity strategy in relation to a virus that can infect the same person multiple times. A truly horrendous state of affairs, with unvaccinated children at the sharp end of the policy.
This.
100% this.
Their herd immunity policy clearly DOESN'T FUCKING WORK. We have real world evidence it won't, it doesn't, from other countries too (e.g. Manaus Brazil).
All they're doing is creating a breeding ground for new variants and doing so in a partially vaccinated population is suicide.
Our economy contracted but the economies of those who suppressed the virus have grown.
I think it's disaster economics by the 1% - they don't see the mass of the population as human and we (and our children) are expendable. It's just a get rich quick scheme, they'll bleed the UK dry, cause massive death and disability and then bugger off elsewhere. As long as they get rich, they don't care what happens to the rest economically or in terms of health.
They have played a blinder in persuading a lot of people that the economy and health are somehow opposed to each other when actually - in a pandemic - the same policies benefit both.
The only mitigations that have had investment are those which enable some form of transfer of money from taxpayers to the 1% (vaccines, tests, test and trace consultants, dodgy PPE contracts). Really basic stuff like ventilation gets no notice or effort at all because it doesn't make them money.
