4 year old DD - symptoms but negative LFT

My 4 year old has a slight cough but is mainly sneezing and has a runny nose. She is a bit lethargic and has been grumpy today. She seems to have got worse throughout the day - more sneezy and generally unwell seeming. No temperature at all at any point, I've taken it a few times.
I just tested her and it was negative - do I just go with this or should I try and get her a PCR? I've obviously heard all the stories about LFTs being unreliable and I'm also not confident how well I did the test as she was super brave and compliant but also gagged a lot.
I'm worried about infecting anyone if she has got it, particularly my parents and parents in law who we see a lot (all double jabbed but still a concern). WWYD?

@DirtySofa

You’re backtracking OP which is why some people have been snippy. In your OP you said “ has a slight cough”. A cough has always been a symptom you test for. The fact that in addition she is feeling unwell, there’s a new variant and cases are increasing - a PCR test is a no- brainer
Not backtracking. Or certainly not meaning to.

By 'slight cough' I meant she had coughed a few times today. In a later post I did clarify that I thought the coughing was a result of the runny nose rather than a cough in its own right. I'm pretty sure I'm right about that, as she's been in bed for three hours now and hasn't coughed or woken at all. When she has had actual coughs in the past, they have kept her awake a lot.

I have booked a test now for the morning so it was never my intention to try and get out of doing so as your post seems to suggest. I genuinely felt a bit unsure of whether I was overreacting and appreciate the unanimous response is to test. So we will. Most previous posters have been pretty understanding that it's not always clear cut whether you should book a test or not.

@careerchangeperhaps it's never more than an occasional cough, not a new continuous one, but many people have been saying sore eyes were a symptom and Delta is more cold like. If she had been in contact I would absolutely test. Also if her symptoms were any different to what she usually experiences at this time of year. This is what the doctor said is important, to know what is normal.

Just do what you think is right OP. My kids are snotty at the mo but not unwell. I haven’t tested them so far. We’ve had approx 100 colds this winter. If they’ve had accompanying coughs, we’ve tested. Always been negative. Kids just get colds. My GP said the other day that they’ve got an unprecedented amount of non-covid childhood illness going on at the mo. Its all whipping round now kids are back socialising! My youngest currently has chicken pox 🥴

You’re doing the right thing.
My ds coughed a couple of times and has a bit of a sniffle, not a full blown runny nose literally just a bit more sniffley than usual.
He doesn’t have a continuous cough a temperature etc.
I tested (lft) him Thursday as his bubble at school closed down and got a negative did another yesterday and got a big fat positive.
His symptoms haven’t got any worse so I wouldn’t have even tested him if he wasn’t isolating him anyway.

Thanks for the replies. Just wondering if these count as 'symptoms' though - she doesn't have a cough as such, although she has coughed a couple of times. It seems more like a reaction to the generally snottiness (excuse the grossness). She hasn't got a temperature or a change in taste or smell (she says.) No sore throat or headache. Mainly snotty, a bit lethargic and sneezy. I would absolutely put it down to a slight cold in normal times and probably not even give her calpol. Will 119 offer her a test? I've heard unless you have at least one of the three main symptoms they don't?
New main symptoms for delta variant are

1.headache

  1. Sore throat
  2. Runny nose
  3. Fever
  4. Cough

And sneezing too
