If I get an NHS text saying someone at a place I was at had covid do I contact the venue?

The text just says I was there the same day someone who has since tested positive and they recommend I get a test.

I assume I'm not recognised as a direct contact? I dont have the NHS app so it can only be somewhere I have given my phone number. In the last week that amounts to two places

Do I contact them and ask whether I would be classed as a contact? Or do they then give those names to T&T?

No you don't need to do anything. It's simply for information.

It depends on the circumstances. Test and trace might ask for your details but if that happens they will contact you direct.

Ok I'll just hang fire and hope they dont call me. One was the doctors surgery and the only person I was within 2m was the doctor who attended to me so fingers crossed it isnt them.

That happened to me and they advised I did a LFT, which I did, and uploaded the result. I wasn’t aware doing nothing was an option.

It just says they recommend doing a test

Why not just get a test then?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/07/2021 15:28

Because it may have been a completely different time. Both places I logged knew the time I arrived and the time I left so why not narrow it down a bit and just text the people it affects.

As I understand it, the same thing happens if you check in somewhere using the app - you just get notified if there's a positive case connected with that venue. I guess it just gives you extra info e.g. if you were going to visit someone vulnerable, then it's useful to know you've potentially been in contact with a case so you can test, rearrange the visit etc.
