My older child has been told to self isolate till 14th july due to child getting covid in the nursery. I cant find anything about what rest if family does? It makes since whole family self isolate aswell? But ive seen on government website that person self isolating who has covid doesnt need whole family self isolating?? Also my younger daughter had test earlier in week due to temperature but came back negative and older daughter who needs to isolate seems like she has temperature just done quick test and she is negative ! What a headache! Should my younger child not go nursery?

Only the older child needs to.

If your older daughter has a temperature she needs a pcr test and because she is displaying symptoms the whole household needs to isolate how the pcr results comes back.

Lateral Flow tests which is sounds like you have used at home? Aren't to be used if the person has symptoms such as a temp.

If her pcr test is negative and has no new symptoms then the rest of the household don't have to isolate only the close contact.

Older daughter should also do PCR test as she is displaying symptoms. Lateral flow not accurate if have symptoms.

Older daughter who now has a temp would also need tested at a test centre though

Unfortunately by the guidance that means the whole household needs to isolate for 10 days as she potentially has covid and the rest of the household is therefore close contacts.

Could you phone the helpline and see if anywhere near you offers the lamp testing?
We use it in our sen school and it's a saliva based test so you just have to get some spit into a test tube. Although I know lots of parents who have found it harder to get the sample than then pcr swabs.

I completely understand how difficult it is to do the tests on wee ones especially with additional needs. We have had to do far too many pcr tests on our 3 year old for him to go to nursery. He is prone to getting a persistent cough everytime he gets a cold or the pollen count is high. It takes 2 of us to do the test but at the same time we have a cev close family member so are aware of the risks of him or us potentially spreading covid if it turned out to be that.
Hope she is OK!

If someone is sent home to isolate as a contact only they need to isolate not the whole household.
If they (or anyone else in that household) develops COVID symptoms then the whole household needs to isolate until either the symptomatic person gets a negative PCR (not layers flow) test result, or for ten days of its positive/they don’t get a test.

If the older one has a temperature, it is self isolate everyone unless a neg PCR. You said seems like so have you taken her temp?
