I checked before starting a new thread. Some might be interested in a story about a report looking at covid in children, which I found on the BBC website today

I am presuming those 3 children sadly most likely died of something other than COVID but happened to also test positive at some stage within 28 days.

I’d be more interested in a study looking into long term effects of covid in children - I have children going into exam years and anything that makes them ill or tired for weeks or months would be a big problem for them.

The other issue that so often gets ignored in the "No need to worry about children getting Covid. They'll be fine" type articles is the devastating effect that losing a parent could have on a child. If a child brings Covid home from school and passes it to an ECV parent who then dies, the effect is going to be devastating on the child notwithstanding that the child's own symptoms may have been nothing worse than a bit of a sniffle.

And before anyone trots out the "the vulnerable have been vaccinated" line, we should also remember that some people with supressed immune systems may derive very little protection from the vaccine.

Great news on risk of death and good to have it confirmed. I think in terms of covid and kids, many people fear long term effects e.g. organ damage, diabetes, disability, long term covid etc. A PP made an interesting point about widening the pool - covid makes some kids vulnerable which in turn increases their risk of serious illness/death when they catch covid again. I agree with PP about vulnerable children to at least be given the opportunity to vaccinate. It's all meant to be about personal choice now isn't it!! Parents of vulnerable kids and kids living with vulnerable people have been put in an impossible position this year - forcing those kids into school without giving an option other than deregistering was beyond disgusting. I wish the government had friends who were interested in ventilation solutions!
