From 19 July, no quarantine (from amber countries) for people who are 2 weeks+ double vaccinated and for children under 18y.

19y Dd is hoping to get her second jab ASAP (local drop in has said they will do them before 8 weeks are up, Dd is almost 4 weeks since first) so she can possibly go away.

This only applies to UK residents, so spare a thought for those of us UK citizens living abroad who still can't come and visit family in the UK without quarantine Sad

coronabeers · 08/07/2021 17:27

This is a good start but for us the problem was the cost of tests. For a family pre flight and day 2 tests are too expensive.

Despite being double vaccinated, having a Covid digital pass recognised in over 27 countries and coming from a country with much lower infection rate than the UK.

I was looking into this, Portugal for example requires a negative test to enter but Spain only require double vac/under 18. I think so anyway, so if we went anywhere we'd choose a country which doesn't require testing.
Geamhradh · 08/07/2021 17:49

No, I think Spain still needs tests in and out as well. Or did the other day

Geamhradh · 08/07/2021 17:50

travelsafe.spain.info/en/

This is what I'm following for Spain.

Howshouldibehave · 08/07/2021 17:50

It’s not really the quarantine that’s the huge problem for us, it’s the cost of PCR testing.

Does anyone know what days you need tests for when getting into Portugal and back into England afterwards?

Whichjab · 08/07/2021 17:51

No quarantine for children under 18. What a joke, this isn't following the science. My 16 year old is 6ft 4 and 14stone. May as well scrap isolation for all instead of punishing those over 18 that have only had a chance to get one jab

SquashMinusIsShit · 08/07/2021 17:51

This is on the .gov website:

From 2 July, the Spanish government requires all arrivals to Spain from the UK to present on entry one of the following: a negative COVID-19 test; or proof of vaccination.

This is for Portugal on .gov:

*All travellers, apart from children under 12, must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test to travel to or through mainland Portugal. The test can be:

a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT), including RT-PCR, taken within 72 hours of travel, or
an Antigen test that meets the performance standards set out in the EU common list of Rapid Antigen Tests, taken within 48 hours of travel.
You must show your test certificate before you board your flight to mainland Portugal. Your airline is likely to deny boarding if you cannot show this at check-in. Check with your airline before you travel.*

I'm assuming it's because they aren't being offered the vaccine rather anything else.

If 12-17 get offered the vaccine then it may well change to lower I guess

Patapouf · 08/07/2021 18:11

Do we think this may impact other country's rules for us?

E.g if currently we can travel there sans quarantine (if double vaccinated) then they change it so we do?

I'm pleased on a personal selfish level but I'm a bit concerned this is opening the floodgates.

I'm in the same situation. However having talked to a friend who is currently in the UK, he is really worried that he will get contacted by T&T, and not allowed to leave the UK to come home again. His son has already had to postpone his flight back to the US. And now I'm thinking maybe it's best just to give up any hope of visiting the UK this year.

Whichjab · 08/07/2021 18:27

Agreed, but that isn't following the science or making sensible public health decisions, it's just populist politics.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 08/07/2021 18:45

I'm not sure the UK has followed the science or made sensible public health decisions during this whole pandemic.

According to the gov website You still need to "provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken in the 3 days before you leave for the UK complete a passenger locator form".

@ZZTopGuitarSolo @missmopple

It isnt just UK residents. Its just residents of England. The old rules still apply to Wales, Scotland, N Ireland.

Yes I'm aware of that, with family in both England and Scotland, and still having no idea when I'm actually ever going to see them again.

missmopple · 09/07/2021 09:38

@Nootkah

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I should have said England!
