Just got text from school, someone in child’s bubble positive, so isolation.
Home Covid test on ds negative….
Does this mean our whole house has to isolate?

No, only the child has to isolate.

kimlo · 07/07/2021 18:34

no, just the child as a close contact. Unless they test positive. A pcr is recomended for close contacts.

SonnetForSpring · 07/07/2021 18:34

For 10 days. The school should really give you this information.

imaginethemdragons · 07/07/2021 18:34

Thank you for your kind and patient answer.
Believe it or not, we have not had this before, so just unsure.

I had the same today and not had it before so I didn't know either!

dementedpixie · 07/07/2021 18:36

Just your child needs to isolate, not the whole household

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 07/07/2021 18:37

The DC has to isolate - which means they should also isolate from you.

As that's impractical for most people, you still need to minimise his/her contact with others in the household. And those who are getting close to the isolating DC should of course maintain socialdistancing properly and fully when they are out and about.

imaginethemdragons · 07/07/2021 18:41

Oh my! He’s 8!
As you say, impractical.
We will of course do our best.
I’m careful, test twice a week, me & dh are double jabbed but older ds 17 is not yet jabbed.
Thanks all for your advice x

Of course you can't isolate from your child. When ds had to isolate he did his usual gaming in his room but did join us for meals

imaginethemdragons · 07/07/2021 18:50

Smile the paddling pool is being set up in the garden and the homework is printed off!

Carry on as normal but open windows if it’s nice weather where you are. He might not have caught it and even if he has you might not then catch it.

jumpbounce · 07/07/2021 19:06

Only the child needs to self isolate, unless he gets symptoms and then you all need to self isolate and get him tested.

Radio4ordie · 07/07/2021 19:07

No, but in my workplace we are asking people in that situation to work from home (even if they don’t need to for childcare reasons) to limit the chance of spreading.

I don’t know anyone with primary aged children who has attempted any sort of isolation from other within their immediate family/household, kids need cuddles.
