School Isolation Question

EwDavid · 07/07/2021 12:02

This probably has a very obvious answer so apologies in advance. If someone in my child's bubble tests positive on, say 15th July, does everyone in the class have to isolate until the 25th or can they stop isolating on the 19th when the new rules come into effect? Or do isolation periods that began before the 19th have to run their course and complete the full 10 days? Thanks!

Isolation does not change until August .

RoseAndRose · 07/07/2021 12:24

Isolation does not change until 16 Aug (at the earliest and assuming the current plan goes ahead)

So yes, full 10 days

Frazzled2207 · 07/07/2021 13:39

what everyone else said.
BUT apparently bubbles finish on the 19th. So that presumably has implications for people who test positive after that. Perhaps government hasn't realised that many schools are still open. Round here they are until 23rd - 28th

EwDavid · 07/07/2021 17:34

Thank you all. That makes sense.

I was wondering the same as we don't break up till the 23rd.

This could ruin lot summer holidays.
We finish 21st and I imagine school will keep bubbles in place until then.

Sleepyblueocean · 08/07/2021 06:47

Ds's special school are keeping bubbles in place until the end of term on the 22nd.

Hi all.

Isolation question.
I've just had a letter from school saying my son needs to isolate until 29th July.
Would you assume that this is due to contact on Friday? Or today?
Only he wasn't in school on Friday.
I'm confused as to if its from today, how someone has gone to school gone home, tested & got a result within a couple of hours.
Will ring the school in the morning to confirm, but I'm a bit confused with it all.
Thanks.

I guess as it's 10 days the contact must have been today?
HSHorror · 19/07/2021 23:18

Yes.
Maybe in awaiting a pcr. Or they got the dates wrong

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 19/07/2021 23:25

Contact day is day 0, you start counting the 10 days the day after.

Glitterblue · 19/07/2021 23:31

Ours found out on Saturday that they have to self isolate until the 25th. However there are constant messages to the class group chat suggesting meet ups this week in town 🙄

Africa2go · 20/07/2021 00:05

If 29th is the last day of isolation (ie letter said up to and inc 29th) then Day 10 is 29th. That makes yesterday Day 0 - last day of contact.

CH79 · 23/07/2021 19:05

Since the changes on July 19 are school isolation letters a legal requirement?

This is taken from the Gov website -

Tracing and self-isolation

Nurseries, schools and colleges only need to trace close contacts up to and including 18 July. From 19 July, as with positive cases in any other setting, NHS Test and Trace will work with the positive case to identify close contacts. This is likely to be a small number of individuals who would be most at risk of contracting COVID-19 due to the nature of the close contact. As parents or carers, you may be contacted to help with identifying close contacts.

What's your thoughts all?

Doubledoodlemummy · 23/07/2021 22:39

Our school bubble burst on Thursday and public health said the test and trace for schools isn’t properly set up yet as they didn’t expect schools still to be working so we’ve had to close the bubble as before 🙄🙈 happy holidays! 🙄

CH79 · 24/07/2021 09:14

@doubledoodlemummy it's ridiculous. As of mid August it's no longer a requirement, what's the difference between now & then!?
Its a farce.
I'm reading the Gov website to mean that if not contacted then its not a legal requirement. Its not our fault that the system isn't set up!

TheGriffle · 24/07/2021 09:20

My daughter got told to isolate by nursery as a close contact with a member of nursery staff who tested positive on Wed 21st. They were in contact Monday 19th, does that mean they shouldn’t have told us and we would be able to still send her in then? (Not going to just curious)

Why would they not tell you?
Frazzled2207 · 24/07/2021 10:19

Officially speaking unless officially informed by test and trace you can carry in as normal. But I think a private nursery can make its own rules.
Fairly sure you won’t have a legal obligation to isolate anymore.

TheGriffle · 24/07/2021 10:28

@jonkersdeplonkers I’m glad they did! Just wondered if there was updated guidance they hadn’t seen like the pp posted above where test and trace were taking over from the 18th so the settings didn’t have to.

sirfredfredgeorge · 24/07/2021 11:44

But they can't require others to isolate after the 19th, as they are no longer delegated by to.

They also cannot insist you don't attend and still collect your money, which I imagine is why they want to keep control, so make sure you get refunded if your child cannot attend.

Frazzled2207 · 24/07/2021 14:19

I meant by carry on as normal - that you don’t need to isolate. But am still sure that a private nurse is still within its rights to close whether or not it is mandated to.

Doubledoodlemummy · 24/07/2021 15:12

Three more members of the nursery staff have now tested positive (PCR) - actually a good job that we closed. This new strain is scary in it’s transmissibility (all double jabbed staff as well) but thankfully no one very poorly.
