WWYD possible Covid contact

So child goes to a group activity in a classroom with doors and windows open. All children stay in their own 2m square to do said activity but I am contacted by the activity provider to say as DC had a short conversation, at the end, with someone who later tested positive that he should isolate. This would have been less than 5mins at a distance of around 1m. To my mind the rules suggest he does not count as a close contact as not less than 1m or more than 15mins. I am proposing to daily test him although primary school age as I have them at home. WWYD?

Depends whether they were closer than 1m;

  • close face to face contact (under 1 metre) for any length of time – including talking to them or coughing on them
  • being within 1 to 2 metres of each other for more than 15 minutes – including travelling in a small vehicle
  • spending lots of time in your home, such as cleaning it

I would follow the instructions I was given, to self isolate my child, as they have done the contract tracing, and it’s the right thing to do

Lakeshore6 · 06/07/2021 23:49

I’d follow the instructions, having caught it in an activity where we were all boxed off and 3 metres apart strictly at all times. The whole distancing thing isn’t all that.

Flamingo30 · 06/07/2021 23:52

I would also follow instructions and isolate my child in this situation.

I would personally do what you've said you want to do. Test daily and not isolate. I've really had enough of all of this now and I think the self isolating rule is ridiculous unless you actually have Covid. I don't understand why people can't choose to test daily if they've been in contact rather than having to isolate. Seems like a far better and more sensible option to me. Lateral flow tests are readily available from any pharmacy for free in my area so not hard to get them.

harverina · 07/07/2021 00:23

I would follow the advice given

BluebellsGreenbells · 07/07/2021 00:27

Did the other child do a lateral flow test before joining the activity?

Playdoughcaterpillar · 07/07/2021 08:43

So they have clearly said they are happy with the 2m spacing as have not told rest of group to isolate. It is solely based on the 2-3min chat at the end. DC sure it was more than a metre as they were still packing equipment away it would have been hard not to be. No LFTs for all before the activity , no. But since I have also worked out the adult was not in the room at the time this chat happened as he was outside dismissing other children and speaking to a parent. (I was there!) So they are bading their advice on being super cautious and assuming children were close when they were not looking. Seems harsh especially as we're about to abandon all these cumbersome rules!

Basing their advice sorry.

Our household has just come down with it as a result of outdoor but close contact - and the relief I felt at not having exposed anyone else as we'd isolated from the notification was great. If you let your child carry on as normal and they subsequently test positive, that will presumably have implications for their school bubble and other activities etc?

rookiemere · 07/07/2021 08:56

The group organiser is not a contact tracing expert. I'd test frequently but not necessarily isolate.

bobcatbobcat · 07/07/2021 09:05

Sorry but I'd isolate them. Well keep them off school anyway but allow walks in quiet places where you don't need to go near others.

Whilst it's horrible for your DS if he were to go on to test positive that could shut his whole bubble which is totally unfair on all the other kids when you had been told you isolate.
