Will daily cases and deaths stop on 19th July?

Will the daily case and death figures cease to be publicised by the media on the 19th July too?
We don't do this for any other illness, so it does seem that it may stop seen as we will be in essence treating it similar to other viruses that circulate. Out of sight out of mind as they say, seems to be a possible strategy for our government.

It would be rather stupid to stop providing information just as we go into what might be a very large wave of cases and increased numbers of hospitalisations and deaths. It might make the clinically vulnerable feel even more scared than they already do; it might encourage even more reckless behaviour from others than would otherwise be the case.

So, given the way this government manage things, maybe that's what they'll do.

I doubt it - there are reports on other illnesses in both humans and animals on the government website (weekly report on all notifiable diseases including covid, weekly flu report in winter, lots on avian flu in wild and domestic birds last year). Whether the media choose to report it is up to them, but I can't see the information disappearing.

How can people take personal responsibility and judge their own risk without up to date accurate information?

I think they’ve specifically said they will continue to publish, altho I can’t provide a source for that atm.

Littlebelina · 06/07/2021 22:05

It's at the bottom of this article (not necessarily the best source but the one I found at the weekend when this came up on the data thread). Yes they are Still going to publish

Well that information will always be available to view if people choose to look for it, just like deaths and cases from other illnesses are easily enough to find if you look for it. That's not what I asked, I asked if people thought these figures would stop being publicised by the media daily, not if the information would be withheld altogether?

They'll keep reporting it, but will it be front and centre on the newspaper pages and websites? It's already quite tricky to find the numbers reported on the BBC Wales site now compared to when it was very easy to find daily, with accompanying maps that were quickly updated. It's there, but not so prominent.

When we're at the "million cases in ten days" point I think it'll get reported...
