Holidays Abroad

Will you? Would you?

DH and the kids "desperate" for a holiday abroad like most people and he wants to book something for August, Canaries/Balearics probably. I'm a bit more cautious as I have been through this whole thing but my god a week in the sun with the kids sounds amazing! He would book it today but I don't know.. Not sure what I'm scared of, the plane maybe? Catching Covid on the way out there and then being unwell and also what happens if you catch it on the way out there? How do you get home?!

So holidays, are you going abroad? Would you if you had the opportunity?

No I'm not testing and quarantine and paying fortunes for LFT negative tests or whatever. I'm worried enough that my holidays in the UK might get cancelled due to one of us testing positive.

Too much risk of cancellation. I think you have to be very optimistic to book these things.

I booked up 4 UK holidays at the start of the year so all my leave is spoken for.

Annabellerina · 07/07/2021 21:49

Thanks @lochroy but who to book with, and when?

Lochroy · 07/07/2021 22:05

@Annabellerina I booked with Randox because they were the cheapest I could find, but I needed an amber bundle of a day 2 and day 8 test. Who are you travelling with? Many have got discount codes for various providers, for example
www.britishairways.com/en-gb/information/incident/coronavirus/covid19-tests

Annabellerina · 07/07/2021 22:11

I'm travelling with jet2 holidays, they don't have any discounted testing services so I'm looking on gov.uk but all testing centres local to me seem to have no availability. Am I looking too early or too late? We fly 2 weeks today.

Lochroy · 07/07/2021 22:15

The day 2 test for your return can be done by post. Are you concerned about budget? If not book the Randox day 2. It's the only one I have direct experience of. DIY at home and then the only arse is having to find a specific drop box to post it to return to. Look them up on their website, in case it will be a problem for you to return it.

Lochroy · 07/07/2021 22:16

Also, where are you going? Have you looked up what you need to enter where you are going? That may require something specific e.g. a test within 48 hours.

Annabellerina · 07/07/2021 22:22

Yes menorca - so no tests to enter (I'm vaccinated and kids are under 10) but then I think I need a pre departure and day 2 test and kids need just day 2 (I think!)

Lochroy · 07/07/2021 22:32

That sounds right. 10 and under don't need the pre departure but it's only under fours that don't need the day 2, so your children will need those.

For the pre return departure test, antigen (LFT) are acceptable and the Balearic government have helpfully set a price cap of €30 for these. I've just been to Majorca and it was easy to get it done in the resort.

Annabellerina · 07/07/2021 22:42

Did you book it beforehand or just sort it at the resort? I've found day 2 tests for £9.99 each..

Lochroy · 07/07/2021 22:47

Just sorted it in the resort. I'd been on a few Facebook groups in advance trying to book but everyone just replied 'there are loads of places, you'll be fine' and whilst there weren't 'loads' there were two!

£9.99 sounds amazing! Very cheap.

Annabellerina · 07/07/2021 22:49

Ok thanks so much for talking me through it, going to book the day 2 tests now. They're nearly an hour's drive away but I'd prefer that to paying £60 pp. The website is really unclear so I'm presuming we do the tests onsite and hand them in there and then. How was your holiday?!

Lochroy · 07/07/2021 22:57

You're welcome, it's been a nice diversion from the football which was a bit tense! If you're travelling to a specific site, then yes, I'd assume they get done there and left there. Sounds like a good plan.

We had a great time away thanks. So glad we did it, despite the quarantine. Hope you have a lovely time!

Annabellerina · 07/07/2021 23:24

Oh I'm excited now I've got that sorted!
