Slightly snotty child - stay at home?

That basically, I have a slightly snotty child (very slightly). Should we stay at home for rest of term? I've done lateral flow test and it's come back negative

No!

MaxwellsChocolate · 06/07/2021 08:01

No, why would you? My youngest and I have been extremely snotty for weeks. We’ve not stayed home.

IncyWincy21 · 06/07/2021 08:02

There's more things going round than COVID

TempsPerdu · 06/07/2021 08:04

Definitely not - on that basis our family would be staying at home for about nine months of the year.

SophieH83 · 06/07/2021 08:06

I think OP is taking the piss.

troppibambini6 · 06/07/2021 08:10

Nope.

CupOfTPlease · 06/07/2021 08:12

No.

Worstnight21 · 06/07/2021 08:12

Sorry, I'm definitely not taking the piss!

One of the millions of emails we had from the school about covid mentioned snotty nose being 'the main symptom' and I THINK it said to keep them home under those circumstances. I don't have time to wade through all the emails to check and tbh DC really doesn't seem unwell. We have a few intense parents on our WhatsApp so didn't want to check there.

Thanks! We are going into school.

No, but I'd probably do daily lateral flow tests as friend's DC both have/had it & only symptoms were very snotty nose & headache

idontgetpaidenoughforthis · 06/07/2021 08:20

Unless high fever or cough then definitely go to school!

ofwarren · 06/07/2021 08:25

Mine have gone in today with a slightly snotty nose. I have done a PCR test on them though as we live in an area of concern and can get them without the 3 symptoms.

whataballbag · 06/07/2021 08:49

I'd test, DS currently has it and only has a snotty nose.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 06/07/2021 08:49

I’ve had this dilemma this morning too

Fizzgigg · 06/07/2021 08:53

There's a horrible head cold going around my DS5's class at the moment. We did keep him and his brother home as a) he felt pretty rotten and b) he developed a fairly yucky cough with it so we definitely had to test and isolate. It was negative though and he's feeling better (though still snotty). There are some horrible cold about

DarceyDashwood · 06/07/2021 09:13

My DS tested positive almost a week ago. The only symptom he had, and has had, is a very snotty nose.

Cherubb · 06/07/2021 09:43

We have just had this...DD was super snotty/congested so I kept her home a day, did lateral flows over the weekend (all negative) but by Sunday was also complaining of sore throat and coughing. Got her a PCR and it was negative but it felt the right think to do. You have to judge it on each situation i think. In another time I would have probably sent her in on the first day but now I kept her off.

We also had an email from school saying symptoms now are congestion, headaches, runny noses and sore throats so it's going to be difficult to tell it apart. I think doing lateral flows is helpful to a degree but I know only a PCR test is more reliable.

Iggly · 06/07/2021 09:45

It’s hard because it’s also hay fever season!!

Starlightstarbright1 · 06/07/2021 09:48

I have sent my ds to school last 2 days - snotty nose.

He is at secondary school so has done a lateral flow

Volhhg · 06/07/2021 10:27

My daughter has had a snotty nose since January, she would never go to school if you weren't allowed with a snotty nose. Son was the same but he has grown out of it now

TheRealMrsMorningstar · 06/07/2021 10:30

We have been told by school that snotty, headache or sore throat and child must be kept home or will be sent home from school and must have a PCR test with neg result to return.

burtiebotts · 06/07/2021 12:38

Our school have said to keep children home with colds, and also request a PCR test before they return. I had to keep my DS home yesterday with a cold, but have been able to send him back today due to a very quick PCR test turnaround. (result came through in less than 24 hours - text came through 8.05 this morning, we then ran around like headless chickens to make school start time!)

faw2009 · 06/07/2021 15:48

My son woke up with sore throat and snotty nose. I kept him off. School notified us that there was a positive covid case in his year and his bubble had burst! Hoping it's a coincidence but he needs a pcr now.

Attheendofthedaywhenallsaid · 06/07/2021 16:01

I think This is just a wind up post

Frazzled2207 · 06/07/2021 16:22

no. Mine are snotty almost constantly.

motogogo · 06/07/2021 16:25

Take a proper test then
