I'm a little concerned now the rules will be changing come the 19th, I heard Boris say most over 40s will be double jabbed by then but me and my dp are booked in for the second one in august

Should we try and get it earlier?
How would we do this?

I thought we had to wait 12 weeks between jab 1 and 2.

If I get it earlier will it spoil the break?
Or is this no big deal given we have 1 already?

Just feeling a bit exposed!

There have been so many changes I don't know what the current guidance is. Any thoughts let me know

It shouldn't be more than 12 weeks but it can be sooner. I thought you could just drop in some places to get it without an appointment - call and check.
Not sure what you mean about spoiling the break?
Just because guidance is changing doesn't mean you have to - keep wearing a mask and social distancing until after second dose (and even then I'd still wear a mask in crowded spaces).

You can now get second jabs at 8 weeks. If you go in to manage your appointments you should see that they are offering earlier ones

I just changed mine and got a new one 8 weeks to the day after my first vaccine

garlictwist · 06/07/2021 05:19

I'm also 40 (just) and had a text saying I could go for my second jab early but when I tried to change my appointment it said there were no available slots so I have to stick with my august appointment.

I wish they wouldn't open things up until everyone's had the chance to have two jabs.

olivethegreat · 06/07/2021 05:44

Yes everyone over 18 can change to 8 weeks. Just keep trying and slots should appear .

Clickbait · 06/07/2021 05:46

You can move your second jab earlier if there's availability- go online and check. I moved mine forward by three weeks.

SleeplessinEastSussex · 06/07/2021 06:03

I had a text yesterday bang on 8 weeks after my first jab telling me to book it yesterday. When I got to the vaccination centre, most people there had received the same message.

ScarlettSunset · 06/07/2021 06:11

I was able to bring my 2nd dose forwards to 9 weeks after the first. It's still after the 19th though. It took a bit of checking on the booking site to be able to move due to availability.

OldTinHat · 06/07/2021 06:19

My second jab was cancelled and I ended up having it done 16 weeks after my first (on Sunday). I live on the south coast and the only appointments available before hand were Aintree and Birmingham 🙄 I'm 49.

user1465146157 · 06/07/2021 09:41

@Livingintheclouds sorry by 'spoiling the break' I meant having the second jab earlier or later than the 12 week period originally advised.
Although from other answers it seems like it can be 8 weeks now which is info I'd missed.

Thanks for the replies here, I'll have a look online if I can change it. Still nervous - of course I will still wear masks etc but just concerned that a large number won't.

Even an extra couple of months of guidelines / distancing wouldn't do that much harm in my opinion

Good luck everyone, keep safe x

I (and pretty much everyone I know) have brought their second jabs forward by at least 2 or 3 weeks. Go through the NHS site.

Legoninjago1 · 06/07/2021 09:44

Sorry that was really badly worded! Hopefully you know what I mean !

LIZS · 06/07/2021 09:47

I think they are pulling it forwards to 8 weeks apart. You may be able to rebook sooner.

landofgiants · 06/07/2021 10:24

They promised eight weeks for the forty-somethings in Wales, but that isn't what materialised (they've been to busy giving 2nd Pfizer shots to the 20-39 year olds)!

There are pros and cons of a longer gap. I think there is some evidence for a better antibody response with the longer dosing interval, however against a backdrop of increasing case rates and Bojo's dodgy messaging, bringing it forwards a bit would make perfect sense.

landofgiants · 06/07/2021 10:26

too busy, sorry

ivfgottwins · 06/07/2021 10:31

I'm Under 40 just and my second vaccine is now today - I got a call last night to do it from my GP and that will be 8 weeks

PlugUgly1980 · 06/07/2021 10:37

12 weeks and now 8 weeks is guidance. You can actually have your 2nd Pfizer jab 21 days after your first, and AZ and Modena 28 days after your first. Both DH and I were able to drop in at our local vaccination centre at the end of the day and get our second ones much sooner than we had our appointments booked on the NHS booking system.
