Isolating also ends?

I actually do t care about the rest, I'll only celebrate when this ends 🙈

Isolation replaced by daily tests I think I just read

november90 · 05/07/2021 19:33

Oh thank you!
I wonder if this will apply to young children as there's no way I could test my 3 year old once never mind every day and he starts school in sept 😬😬😬

I want to know this too as my 13 month old had just returned to nursery after isolation because her key worker tested positive

tealappeal · 05/07/2021 19:35

Will the tests be lateral flow or PCR? It's a 70 mile round trip to our nearest testing centre!

wonderstuff123 · 05/07/2021 19:44

I've just read this on the official government page

The Government also intends to exempt under 18s who are close contacts of a positive case from the requirement to self-isolate

PumpkinKlNG · 05/07/2021 20:27

How is the daily testing going to work? I have 2 with autism they won’t even let me clean their ears let alone test them daily?

pocketcalculatoroperator · 05/07/2021 20:29

The govt guidance refers to children and double jabbed adults not having to isolate as contacts, but that this will be announced 'later in the summer'.

GiantToadstool · 05/07/2021 20:32

I was supposed to clean my children's ears!??!

PumpkinKlNG · 05/07/2021 20:34

Well you don’t have to clean yours but my kids get really waxy, was only an example, replace that with “cut their nails” then

GiantToadstool · 05/07/2021 20:36

I genuinely often wonder how many things I missed with my kids of things "everybody knows."

I didn't realise it wasn't the done thing tk turn up to work with wet hair after swimming for far too long...

GiantToadstool · 05/07/2021 20:38

Not the point obviousky! Sorry!

It feels like simultaneously people are relaxing about covid yet half the schools around me have year groups out isolating. Im dreading being told to isolate due to year groups shutting as I have work I need to finish!

Its so disruptive.

Imnothereforthedrama · 05/07/2021 20:44

It’s being announced later this week rules on isolation I’ve read .

november90 · 06/07/2021 00:27

Thanks for the replies everyone!
@PumpkinKlNG it's very difficult isn't it. My son isn't autistic but does have some sensory issues and there's no way in this planet he would let me test him and I'm scared that's going to leave us in a forgotten isolating category!

OP posts:
landofgiants · 06/07/2021 10:33

My DS(10) would not permit a test, either. If he was ill enough, I think I'd have a chance, but if he was healthy - no way!

november90 · 06/07/2021 12:47

My sisters just said they are expecting to announce daily testing for school children which my so. Would never allow so he will most likely we isolating all school year. What a bloody mess!

I've just been listening to the minister talking.

Yes, testing to replace isolation for u18s, but it all seems to be on the assumption that all DC are low risk. There was nothing on CEV or CV children, or those with a CEV parent/sibling

TakeYourFinalPosition · 06/07/2021 12:52

According to the radio just now, from August 16th, no double-vaccinated adults or under 18s will have to self-isolate if they come into contact with a positive case...

They will be asked to take a PCR and if that is positive, they'll then have to self-isolate, even if they're jabbed. And you still have to take a PCR if you are asked to do so by Test and Trace.

No mention of how testing for children will work, but there are currently (admittedly rare) exemptions for people who can't take PCRs... would your son be eligible for that? It might be worth a chat with his GP?

landofgiants · 06/07/2021 13:23

@TakeYourFinalPosition - that's interesting, I can't see my work being understanding of me potentially having to be off if DS is self-isolating because he won't/can't take a test.
