Just recovered from COVID and having LFT for flight

Hi, I was wondering if, given my son is currently SI due to testing positive a week ago, when we (hopefully) go on holiday in a couple of weeks will this affect the result of the LFT?

He did a LTF yesterday just to see what it did and it showed positive, so that has got be worried..

Where are you flying to? Don't you need a private pcr for flights?!

Feenie · 05/07/2021 13:43

You're not supposed to do any more LFTs for 90 days after testing positive.

Flying to Italy

Yes, you can test positive for up to 90 days after the initial test, although hopefully this is not the case.

Where are you flying to? If (most of) Europe, a certificate showing antibodies, or recent recovery from Covid, would be valid instead of a negative test.

If it's required by the airline, not the country of destination, I'd have a look on their website and see if a recovery certificate or a positive antibodies test would be valid.

Flying to Italy
From the UK? I suppose you are aware there is mandatory 5-day self-isolation when you arrive to Italy now, plus the required tests on departure and at the end of the 5 day isolation.

I have just been on the official website and antibodies or recovery certificates don't seem to be accepted when flying in from the UK.

It's normal tests plus quarantine. The test could be positive either at home before you leave, or on day 5 of isolation. Can you do a few home tests beforehand to see what happens?

Yes, this is what the guidelines say, as you are immune from catching COVID again in those 90 days.

But to go on holiday (abroad) you have to have several tests to prove you don't have it. He I presume won't have covid, but could show as positive as he has the antibodies in him.

I spoke with the doctor surgery this morning and they can print off that he has had covid, but I'm not sure is that will be suitable.

Just wondered if anyone else had come across this?

My LFT tests were positive during the time I had covid but then became negative after about1.5-2 weeks after the initial positive one

startingtosmileagain · 05/07/2021 13:54

@EileenGC yes we have a place there, so able to isolate and have booked all the tests.

This could be a problem then!

It's not guaranteed they'll be positive during those 90, so hopefully they aren't. I would test him regularly at home after his isolation is over, to see if there's any change in the test results. And definitely take that certificate with you, but don't show it around too eagerly! One of my best friends found herself in Italy for a family funeral and tested positive whilst there, ended up trapped for 3 months as they recognised her recovery certificate but wouldn't allow her to test herself unless 90 days had passed. Fingers crossed for you!
