Have covid again!

I have caught covid from my DC - I already had it back in February! Have also had 2 AZ vaccines. Seems so unfair that between having to before and having both jabs I have still caught it again and feel terrible, worse than last time.

Anyone else had it twice?

Aww no, hope you're better soon.

My partner is waiting for his result but if it's positive, it would also be his second time (he's also had 2 jabs of AZ)

fedup078 · 05/07/2021 12:14

Well this is worrying
I hope you get through it ok x

loulouljh · 05/07/2021 12:17

Maybe having had the jab you are getting it worse?

TheVampiresWife · 05/07/2021 12:27

There was a poster on here last week who has had it four times!

Hopefully you'll recover faster this time OP, seeing as you're jabbed and have had it before. Get well soon Flowers

Would you say that if someone caught a cold or another usual viral infection twice? This is how things are now.

The vaccine doesn't eradicate Covid, it simply reduces symptoms so vulnerable people won't need hospitalisation. We have to getvused to living with this.

Hope you feel better soon though, OP.

TheBigTamale · 05/07/2021 12:40

odd how there are now so many people getting it again when vaccinated. There was a study out last week that said getting reinfected was very rare

Have you had time to think this one through?

Here’s my experience “I’ve had one dose and not had covid. One dose must be really effective.”

You are taking anecdotal data and extrapolating into something meaningful. People can get reinfected.

If they get reinfected they have to self-isolate. If they have to self-isolate they are bored. If they are bored they come on Mumsnet. If they come on Mumsnet they post they have “covid again!!!”.

BarbarianMum · 05/07/2021 13:02

Yes, me. March and Dec 2020. I was really sick the first time, not so bad the second.

@TheBigTamale reinfection has been known to occur quite frequently for many months now. It's just that relatively few cases are scientifically proven as to do this you have to sequence the viral dna from the first and second infections and shoe they are different. And until recently this wasnt done as a matter of course so most people have no way of knowing which varient theyve had.

Lostinacloud · 05/07/2021 13:09

Some countries like Israel and India showed an uptick in cases at the start point of mass vaccination. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not!

SpringRainbow · 05/07/2021 13:12

The vaccine does not provide immunity. Covid is here to stay and zero Covid is unlikely to happen anytime soon (if at all).

I hope you get well soon.

cushioncovers · 05/07/2021 13:20

Not me but a colleague has had it twice once before the vaccines and once after. He only had mild symptoms the second time. So the vaccines did their job.

fedup078 · 05/07/2021 13:34

@Cam2020
Well for someone who has had both jabs and a previous infection and should therefore have the maximum immunity possible , to get it again 4 months later, then yes I would say it's pretty worrying

Except it’s not about immunity. It’s about keeping people out of hospital.
If the illness is ‘mild’ (ie you don’t need hospitalisation) then the vaccine has done its job.

Oh go on then, tell us the latest conspiracycrap theory.

Actually, lying. Please dont.

It is not uncommon for people to catch covid shortly after their vaccination before it has built immunity (the first 2-3 weeks) as they tend to relax and think "I'm protected now!" and start mixing more with fewer precautions. When the vaccination rollout started in the UK, there were lots of stories of older people starting to go to shops and using the bus for the first time since the pandemic began in the days after their vaccination.
Lostinacloud · 05/07/2021 14:51

I’ve learnt that there’s not much point trying to offer a non bbc version of events or scientific understanding on here so quite lucky that you’re not interested BarbarianMum. Anyone who wishes to look beyond the mainstream media can do so. I call that looking beyond what I am being fed by the big black box in the living room pumping out information designed by government employed behavioural psychologists, you call that conspiracy theory.

Opposed to randoms on the internet?

I'm not suggesting that any news is reliable, but how do we differentiate between what is credible and what is not?

Lostinacloud · 05/07/2021 18:22

Have to give credit to history A Level for teaching me how to analyse and interpret sources, question the motives behind why they were written, for what purpose and for who to see. Although I will admit that the massively coordinated censorship and mountain of “fact checking” websites that have popped up to discredit just about anything not written by a government minister, body or pharmaceutical company directly involved in the covid response has made deciding what might be credible and what might not be credible incredibly challenging.

BarbarianMum · 05/07/2021 18:48

Wow, did A level history teach you to understand and interpret scientific papers in virology and immunology? Impressive, I have a degree in Biological Sciences and still find quite a lot of the research beyond me.

Because this is Mumsnet. Some people's entire family, friends, neighbours, distant cousins 27 times removed have had it. And they've had it really badly as well. And all have long covid.
Lostinacloud · 05/07/2021 18:57

No BarbarianMum, it didn’t funnily enough. However, I am capable of reading and understanding literature written by qualified virologists and immunologists and considering their carefully presented data instead.

KB921 · 05/07/2021 19:09

Sounds worrying op! I do hope you feel better soon. I have had 2 doses of AZ too. My son has had a very close contact with a potential positive (awaiting pcr result) so I am a little concerned but that's me jumping to worse case scenario again. Feel better soon 💗
