Anyones DC bubble burst on a day their child wasnt at school?

(Hypothetical)

If so, how did the school manage it? Was DC able to attend and go into a different class or did they have to stay off school?

Obviously wont need to SI as not mixed with the positive case. Off Friday, positive case symptoms started Sunday, notified this morning- so DC last with positive case over 48hrs ago.

I just wondered as mine were off Friday and wondered if it so happened, how that would work.

Our Primary is small, single form entry, so would need to go in the year below/above for 10 days if not home learning.

Just wondered if this had happened to anyone.

Yes - we were initially told to self isolate with everyone else, after lots of calls to the school eventually confirmed no SI but had to home school with the rest of the class, as no other bubble mixing allowed. Annoying.

Ah I didnt think about the mixing bubbles - though they do break out into small (mixed yeargroup) phonics groups so clearly arent all that hot on bubbles.

Exactly the same situation for us.

Back a few months ago there was a case like this at my DS's school when a whole class was off self-isolating but one child had been absent and didn't need to. The child came to school and there was a combination - for some of the day he was joining in the 'live' teaching for his class being delivered online, sat alone in a classroom. For other parts of the day he was joining in with another class (my DS's) class. But it's a private school so they make their own decisions, it might be that your school has more constraints on what is possible.

A few months ago a friends son who actually missed out on the close contact because of cancer treatment was allowed to go into school into a different class until his bubble reopened. I don’t think that’s the only time it has happened so is def possible.

But I think these kinds of things are at a school’s discretion

Abraxan · 05/07/2021 08:33

Whilst they don't have to SI they often can't go into school.

Their lessons will be remote learning along with the rest of their class, accessed from home.

Most schools cannot accommodate the child in another class due to not being allowed to mix bubbles. Many schools have now changed to whole class bubbles rather than year group ones.

It may depend in how it's done and where. We have one mixed group intervention group but it's done outside and the children from each class are socially distanced from the other classes.

This happened to a friend of mine her dc wasn't allowed in school or with another class but there was no requirement to isolate at home

LadyPenelope68 · 05/07/2021 09:51

We’ve had a few cases like this at the school I teach at. The child hasn’t had to isolate, but they e had to do the Home Learning with the others as they can’t go into another bubble.

Comefromaway · 05/07/2021 09:53

My daughter's friend had to stay home as classes went online but she did not have to isolate.

motherrunner · 05/07/2021 09:54

Where I work the pupil still comes into school. I teach the class remotely and the child/ren in front of me.

takemetocedarpoint · 05/07/2021 09:58

This is happening in my DD’s school at the moment. There is a class self isolating but a child who was off on the day the positive test in their class happened. So they have temporarily joined another class.

But arent you a contact of the positive case if its your class?

motherrunner · 05/07/2021 10:21

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz No, I’m a secondary teacher. We’re not classed as close contacts as have to maintain (supposedly) a 2m distance at all times.

ittakes2 · 05/07/2021 10:30

My understanding is a positive case is considered positive 2 days before their test so even if your child was off the day the other child tested positive - if they were there the two days prior they would still need to isolate.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/07/2021 10:33

Part of one of our classes is going back tomorrow. The teacher and a number of children were not in last Monday at the last point of contact so can return Tuesday as case 1 contact was the previous Friday. The children that did go in Monday have to wait until this Friday as case 2 contact was Monday.

agree with this but if say the close contact happened on a monday then the child who wasn't there on monday should be in the clear due to the weekend
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/07/2021 11:28

Yep that was sort of what I was trying to describe.

Positive/symptoms Sunday, but my kids off Friday before it so last contact Thursday.

We had a case the first day back after the half term. One child wasn't in school that day and the school let the parent know that child could come in and they would accomodate them in some way. The parent kept the child off anywaynas they didn't want to be the only one in.
