Yes you should. Many would choose not to however.

How old are, do they go to nursery/pre school/school?

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/07/2021 18:34

Your DS’s negative could have been a false negative, so doesn’t really tell you much.

JanuaryEl5ieBill · 04/07/2021 18:37

You need to test. It's really frustrating but necessary.

MilkCereal · 04/07/2021 18:48

DC are 5 and 7. False negative really?

DH and I both double vaccinated. DS 21, student, single vaccinated. He woke up yesterday morning with a slight sore throat and minor headache. For a joke, I persuaded him to do a LFT. His was positive, I was negative. Cue all three of us getting PCR tests. Results this morning: DS positive, us two negative. Lots of contradictory advice but apparently we all have to isolate for 10 days. It's a pain in the arse. We can work from home, but I can understand why some people are deleting their NHS Covid apps and not doing the lateral flow tests.

Just done lft on her. Ok will test her.... my work will go crazy 🙄 I'm sure they're fine

Sorry I wasn’t cleared earlier, but as she has one of the three official symptoms (temperature, even briefly), the advice is to do a PCR test, not a LFT because they are not reliable enough. And you should all isolate until she gets a negative result. This is a legal requirement. See the NHS guidelines here:
www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

PurpleSunrise · 04/07/2021 20:42

She needs to get PCR not LFT, they aren’t as sensitive and not suitable for those with symptoms

Wherediditgo · 04/07/2021 20:44

She has symptoms so needs a PCR. NOT a LFT.

cantkeepawayforever · 04/07/2021 20:46

WHY has the messaging been so bad that people use LFTs to test symptomatic individuals?

It has ALWAYS been the case that symptoms = PCR.

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/07/2021 20:51

Maybe the OP had the LFTs to hand so decided to use one for an indication.....

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/07/2021 20:52

I think that’s what many would do. She knows about using PCR testing as did one for her son last week....

Katie517 · 04/07/2021 21:09

I wouldn’t test. There is a summer cold going around which is what your little boy obviously has and she has caught it from him. Common sense rather than over reacting and panic is needed I think (not aimed at you OP but more at the it must be a false negative, no other illness but covid exists brigade!)

MilkCereal · 04/07/2021 21:12

So if I wasnt clear I will get pcr but I had LFT tests so did one. I do think I shouldn't need to test but will. I work in a school so my absence now affects my whole class, seems ridiculous. Headteacher is not support at all and wants me in.
